Hello everybody, I'm willing to purchase the following material on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-348-T3T4-Turbo-Charger-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3efb5a0c47QQitemZ270504954951QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Someone can tell me is worth being? I would have to change the engine?
Sounds to good to be true, must be a generic kit with a bunch of mods required. If you buy it make sure that it is not just a bunch of parts but designed specifically for your car.
That conversion kit has been discussed on here before, it was a short discussion. Also the company share the same picture for all there various car conversions. It would be a good idea to ask the company for information of any owners who have already fitted the kit. If they cant i would not waste my money on it.
And it states that its a single turbo conversion, just to make things harder! But for your money you do get fake braided hose covers......
[/ QUOTE] In this case, is there another option? Another vendor?! Remembering that I am using a translator!, Any detail not strange! Thanks!
If you plan on going turbo with a 355 then I suggest you do a lot of research. Go to local fabrication shops and start talking to them on pricing for a 355 turbo project. I suggest you invest in quality materials and not a put together cheap turbo kit like the one you showed on ebay. Start off with finding a good welder who knows how to make quality turbo manifolds and nice clean turbo intercooler piping. Go with good material when creating the turbo manifold so it will not crack years to come. Then you should invest in a good engine managment system that a local tuner can tune well and knows inside out ie: motec, autronic, electromotive, pectel etc. Then depending on the amount of power your goal is you may want to change your pistons, rods and fuel system to handle the amount of power you want to make. Ferraris come with high compression pistons from factory so you may want to go with a 9:1 compression piston. Your tuner should give you a better idea on that as well as your cams. Stay away from ebay no name turbos and intercoolers. You should be looking at garrett, precision, Borg warner turbos and spearco or precision intercoolers. Best bet is to find a local tuner who has a ot of experience with forced induced cars and get a game plan on paper before doing anything. It all depends on how much rear wheel power you want to make. Good luck and remember building a quality project is never cheap but if done the right way the first time you wont have as many headaches in the long run... Cheers..
This is NOT the way to turbocharge your 348 engine. The kit is a random bunch of parts which MAY or MAY NOT (mostly likely WILL NOT) work with your Ferrari application. Also, it is missing 2 huge components - fuel injectors (because stock 18 lb. units are not going to cut it) and upgraded ECU chips (you would not run stock would you?!). Surprisingly, your stock fuel system will probably be able to handle the fuel demand (fuel pumps, lines and regulators). The idea of slapping a single turbo and an intercooler along with some boxed parts on your exotic engine is just NUTS! Now if you were a Stooge with a lot of extra time and an extra engine in the garage, you might bite on this and then buy all the extra stuff you are going to need, like another turbo and intercooler, for example. Then you might have a pair of piggyback ECUs hanging in the garage or (someone's you know) to manage all this stuff along with some extra Mustang fuel injectors you accidently bought in an eBay auction. Of course, you will need every one of your Stooge buddies to figure out an installation and that won't even tell you if it will work without turning your engine into SLAG. So, forget it. If you must, install it on your rice burner where it belongs. Then buy a back-up engine.
There is no way to get around the fact that it will & has cost anywhere on the extremely conservative side 10k to a more beleiveable 15-30k if done correctly. The way the 355 is designed its a twin turbo setup or nothing unless you really like to punish yourself.... aftermarket programmable PCM's lower compression ration(engine disassembly & reassembly),the correct injectors ,regulators',better fuel pumps, bigger fuel line's..dyno time....you can estimate injector size but?......I turbocharged a much cheaper v-8 car some time ago.The 30-50hrs of installation & proper fitting(trips to get things that "arent in the kit")waiting for parts, tuning which is the last & most important cause if you run lean baby its a big BOOM or just a head gasket if you're lucky.Oh yeah the exhaust system which will be a custom piece but short so who knows.....So we do the turbo add 100-200 hp...then blow trans or clutch becuz next weakest link fails next right. All these reasons are why I havent done it. I have the resources to do it from scratch but there too many variables to cover.Upgrade to the next car its more practical.Besides the risk just isnt close to the the reward. I havent seen or heard of anyone yet that has SUCCEESSFULLY done it to the point of any degree of reliablity, just terminal blow ups so we dont even know if the block can withstand the extreme(& it is extreme pressure & duty it will be put under)& 7-10psi of boost isnt worth it to me.Good Luck -John
