I pulled the rear panel off behind my seat since my battery tender wire didn't match any other photos I have seen, and found a trickle charger. It has a 110 V plug behind the seat instead of the normal one.

Does anyone know if this could have been a factory install?

Anyone know if this is a good one?

    Thanks in Advance.

The factory charger for the F430 is no bargain.. Speaking from experience it is prone to fail.. I now have a Deltron Battery Tender that works flawless, and outputs a higher charge.
There have been numerous threads regarding factory units and their reliability.

    Ditto.

I use Battery Tenders outside of the car hooked up by pig tail. Keep all chargers out of car and away from car as anyone can spontaneously combust.

The factory Zivan charger I showed above has not been notably reliable. In 2008, Ferrari switched to the much smaller CTEK charger as standard equipment, along with factory wiring connectors. These have been much more reliable, but at least on 599 owner mentioned his fail.

I have a Ferrari badged CTEK with alligator clips that has been very reliable for me.

I agree with Jim on built in tenders. Convenient, but they are heat makers in confined spaces, so need to be careful. Ferrari recommends they be outside the car, as the image below shows.

The Zivan is a real small boat anchor compared to the CTEK, but the case looks really nice. Solution, buy a case from Ricambi ($250) and put your charger/tender in it.

Suprisingly, the factory unit when it worked was always warm to the touch.. The Deltron always feels cool when disconnecting.

My July '07 F430 came with the CTEK charger Terry's illustration shows.
I'm on my 2nd one as the one that came with the car failed.
The replacement is working and does cycle between Orange and Green lights and is always warm to the touch.
I've seen the much larger unit pictured earlier in the thread, but it was on a friend's early '07 F430 Spider.
I've used Deltran units on my other cars and IMO, they're better.

I had the same unit in my 360, it worked fine, but never felt comfortable having the charging unit in the car. It was always hot, not to the point it would start a fire, but always kept me thinking what if??
My recommendation to you get a Delran, I almost prefer that over the Ctek that comes with the 430

You guys win.. I moved the Deltron Tender out of the car and onto a stand this evening..I have always feared crushing the cord in the door, but apparently on the 430 there is a gap up near the front where there is no stripping.

Not to be repetitive, but I learned the hard way to never rely on the factory CTEK unit.

Isn't there a big difference between a battery charger and a battery tender, and if we leave our cars hooked up for days at a time without constantly checking on them, shouldn't we use battery tenders? I have been using two Battery Tender Jr's all winter for about ten winters or more. How long can we expect these units to last, and when they fail, is it with a whimper or a bang?

Everything mentioned here is a tender.
