Tim, you get what you pay for! If you pay the dues to join any club or organization and then you do not participate in that organizations activities, then you got what you paid for-Nothing.
This was an attempt to put on an event for FCA members only-you got something for your dues-IF YOU PARTICIPATED! If you did not you got nothing. If I am not mistaken you were invited, so you received 100% for nothing!
The local club does car shows, happy hours, tech sessions, Bob Smith Tours, this run, etc.
Not to mention if you want to go to one of the national meets your entry is provided by your membership fee.
BTW, I run my own business, so I am quite aware of the economic impact of 2009 and quite frankly I am geting a bit weary of this becoming the principal excuse. It was tough for everyone!
I look forward to seeing you on the run and discussing the aspects of FCA membership further. :)

    Hi Don,

You seem to be a bit miffed at my comments. That certainly was not my intent. I'm sorry if I hacked you off. But thanks for the lesson on economic value. :)

When I was a member, I was pretty active with the group... participating in the runs, lunches, happy hours, etc. So I think I got more than nothing from my membership. I did not mean to imply that FCA membership is worth "nothing", as you put it. I was merely comparing the cost of membership with the cost of another club to which I am a member and expressing that I believe the 'value' of the other to be greater, dollar-for-dollar. Again, it was not intended to slam FCA or hack anyone off. I'm sorry if it did.

BTW: I'd be happy to sit down and discuss the aspects of FCA membership further. I am a proponent of membership.

I'm also sorry you are weary of the excuses, and yes, things have been tough all over. I too am a business owner. But I would never presume to know anything about another man's business... so I would respectfully request another man to oblige me the same courtesy.

Well, I have to get the 308 down to James and see about getting a headlamp fixed. The darn thing won't work in low-beam mode and, as such, the state inspection folks won't pass it. James thinks it's a relay problem. Ironic... I RARELY drive at night and it's parked now due to a headlamp. (Inspection expired last month) Gotta get that done so I can make the run... lest I run the risk of getting a ticket. Hmm... has that ever stopped me before?

    Cheers,
    T

I know a guy with a white Ferrari that's inspection expired a few months ago, but he still drives it. Once upon a time, it went nearly a year without a current inspection! At least that's what he says.

    Don't be afraid Tim. :)

I was an FCA member, then chose not renew because I saw no value. I'm seeing value again and was ready to renew just to make the run (the reason I signed up in the first place!!), but my standard excuse is going to have to be used once again. I can't make the run because of my offspring. 4 games in assorted different sports that day. I'm not happy about it, the runs are the highlight of the year. Have fun.

What time does this run start to end (aprox) ?
Got me a Sprint car race to attend on the 10th in Kennedale. For real.
Perhaps we can all meet there after the rally and do doughnuts in the parking lot. Not so real.

    Just thinking out loud here.

    Good questions!

The run will leave Benbrook (I20 and 377 area) around 9, and arrive in Granbury around 11. The route is about 120 miles long (Ferrari odo, could be WAY off) and takes about 2 hours.

Plan on meeting an hour earlier at the start location.

In my opinion this event is very different from the Toy Run where that goal is to get as MANY cars as possible involved to get the MOST toys for underprivelidged kids. The Primavera event was put together by FCA and it was then opened up to other Ferrari's whether they were members of FCA or not. I understand Lambo's and Masers as they are exotic italian cars. I also understand FCA members that are not able to drive their F-car for whatever reason and need to bring something else. We all know Ferrari's need "periodic scheduled maintenance " and they may not be available for the run. Nothing personal to any owners of other make/model of cars but this is not the toy run and the more of a "mix" of types of cars that participate the less interested other Ferrari owners will be in going as it takes away from the event.

Personally, I would rather have a handfull of F-cars than 30 cars of various types. Its not about the cost of the cars (my first F-Car was a $12,500 Mondial 8) but the Ferrari marque itself.

    My 2 cents:)

I agree with Greg. Again, I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but the other Spring and Fall runs I've been on were all Ferrari/Lamborghini type exotics (with an occasional 71 Gran Torino :) ), which is why this event was worth going to, for me anyway.

Tillman - was the intent to open this up to all makes/models?

    Hi gang,

No, this isn't a all-marque event. There's only 2 non-Italian cars in the thing, one is owned by an FCA member and the other is Kimson.

I agree entirely with Greg on a bit of exclusiveness on this event, and that's fine. Note that neither the starting nor ending location has been publicly announced. That's the distinction between this and the Toy Run.

Right now we're sitting between 15-20 cars, and that's right about where we want to be. Any more than that becomes unwieldy. This is just friends out for lunch.

I just read Tillmans last entry and I understand if you just want to keep it Italian Exotics. I just haven't replaced the Countach yet. I have been in Europe for the last 18 months and just wanted to do the run with you guys and say hi. I really enjoyed it in the past. Let me know.
