recently acquired a 1990 348 ts and have embarked on sorting out a few small problems with the car. 1. the drivers side headlamp in the raised position is about 1" too low. Consulting the 348 site, I adjusted component group #6 which did raise the headlight. Problem was, in the down position, the headlight hood was about 1" too high. I lowered it to close more evenly but the headlight is again too low. any suggestions? 2. speedometer works sometimes. where do I start? 3. the mouse track seat belts work but I have seen retractable and 4 point racing style belts installed. where/how are these belts attached? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. John
For the speedo you need to clean and check the connection at each end. That would be behind the cluster, and also at sender where it is screwed into the transaxle. The sender has a pigtail wire with a connection, take it apart and clean and reconnect. If both connections are clean and tight, you may need to replace the sender on the transaxle, they fail with great regularity. I have replaced them on my previous 308 and 328, and on my current 355.
thanks for the information. hopefully I can reciprocate one day with tech tips (but I doubt it). John
Sounds like the pawl needs to be adjusted. It works like a turnbuckle and sets the total travel. It's the little piece with two black plastic ended ball joints. I assume part #6 that you speak of is the arm that is fitted on the motor shaft. It has splines and is adjustable but only sets the start and stop point. That pawl can be a pain to adjust, just remember two things. 1) Disconnect the relay's and verify that you have disabled the headlight buckets before making adjustments. They like to move on there own if you turn the drive motor to far and are fully capable of removing your fingers. 2) Have lot's of patience. The job is made a heck of a lot easier by removing the front bumper but it's up to you how far you want to dive in. I did mine with the bumper off since I was painting and all the panels needed to be lined up.
the turnbuckle and ball joint assembly is parts group #6 that I mentioned in my original post. This is the part I adjusted to raise the headlight but remained too high when lowered. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Right now I've just left it in the middle but I would like to get it right. Could it be that I have to loosen the nut and washer on the "arm" that the rear ball joint is attached to and reposition the "arm" to adjust the headlight in the down position? Thanks, John
