I was looking at the video clip of big bryant in post #1018. The statement that it is not a GTO was posted just after the link to the video clip. I thought you were talking about the video. Sorry, the stills (photoshop) were not in my reference.
Well, "only" 50 bhp more, new F1 gearbox... Not bad, sure, but for me the name GTO isn't apropriated... Now it's my own opinion!
Agree 100%. Which one of us expected -back in 1984- that the 288 would be worth so much money today? I hated it then and I want to buy it now! Imagine a world -10+ years from now- when V12s have become obsolete due to emissions and fuel consumption, all supercars are V6 and V8 with twin turbos and the 599GTOs stands as one of the last, great V12s produced. I think people would value the car then ...and before someone talks about Ferrari 250s or Daytonas, I would urge you to think of the driving preferences of classic car drivers 10 years from now. People who grow up driving cars with traction control, power steering and ABS absolutely hate the way those cars drive... I saw it clearly when I allowed a young and successful businessman to drive my 250 Lusso a few years back. He came back thinking "is that all"??? The 599GTO will still feel impressive in 10 years... For now it will depreciate
A quick update on the GTO: As others here already mentioned the car world "premiere" will be this coming 14th of April at a special event held at the Military Academy in Modena. I believe that after this presentation Ferrari will open doors to journalists and press realeses. On another aspect I spoke with Ferrari the other day and they told me that the European quote of GTO cars is sold out already. Also the overall world orders they have is way above (they mentioned double or triple) the cars that will be built (limited edition 1 of 599 - this will be written on the front cover of the hi-fi system) even before presenting the car to mass clientele.
Should we start the sweepstake now on the final production numbers - all of which will say 1 of 599 !

Looks great....like 599xx Lite. I'm tired of the black roof treatment though...looking forward to seeing solid color scheme.
Configurator is also online. But not available for public. See page here. http://www.autogespot.com/nl/item/7391/zojuist-onthuld!-nu-is-de-599-gto-al-te-configureren!.html Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ditto. "On another aspect I spoke with Ferrari the other day and they told me that the European quote of GTO cars is sold out already. From their Lips to God's Ears. "Should we start the sweepstake now on the final production numbers - all of which will say 1 of 599 ! " I do like the styling cue of the rear fender break/shape and the mesh seating areas which also showed up in the Scuderia. Someone must have liked that. Configurator is there - not sure if it is if you don't have a login but here's a quick one. Image Unavailable, Please Login
And it would seem if you pick the historical racing livery its only one color choice: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I don't this it is that good design wise. It wasn't a wow for me. I like the interior much better than the exterior. Overall is a good looking ferrari, but I think Ferrari could have innovated a little more on the looks.
It goes far beyond HP rating and F1 configuration. Again, read what Ferrari itself is representing. The car will speak for itself and history will sort out whether it deserves the iconic name. It's not going to be resolved here on F Chat, although this is entertaining. When I get the car I'm going enjoy the hell of it, drive the snot out of it, and not give this meaningless debate a nano-second's thought.
+1000 Ferrari has now publicly said the GTO is the fastest road going car they've built. And, that its intended to be a homolgated version of the 599xx...and that its a special vehicle limited to 599 copies...and importantly, that its been designed specifically with the reputations and histories of its famous siblings in mind. That's about all there is to say... I'll be at the premier next Wed in Bologna. And, I'll be sorting out color and appointments for mine the following day at the factory. The only sad thing, however, is that I'm told it'll be fall, probably late, before it arrives in its new home. But note, a space has already been cleared
Overall I think it is very nice looking. The rear end especially. The interior is closer to the regular version than I would have liked, but I can't get one yet so it doesn't matter, plus if I could, I think I could live with it. That center console between the seats, however, is how it should have come in the first place.
