Title pretty much says it all..... There's another bet been laid down (not by me this time) and "public opinion" will be interesting as always.....

I voted no. Maybe (maybe!) he's theoretically still in the shape, but he most likely won't have *the* superior car again, and the competition is so much stronger now than back in 2004... all the young guns out there, Vettel, Hamilton, Rosberg, and his old friends and rivals like Alonso and Massa... no, he won't be WDC again. It's nice to see him race, but his time is over.

Make it public! (I want everyone to mock me for voting yes. It'll make it more fun when I serve crow after he wins it) :D

He has to have the car for it. Alonso, Hamilton, Button, NO ONE can do it with a crappy car.

    Ouch!.......

Are you saying he won't? - I'll take that bet, unless anyone else wants it?......

Are you saying I can do that? [I won't, unless it's "agreed", and FWIW, I voted yes......]

    Cheers,
    Ian

I should add that Alguersari said he learned more about driving on the edge during an F1 race and being competitive by being near Schuey than he ever has. Comments like that are not stated because someone is washed up or is a has been.

Don't be a fool and write him off. Some of the finest former F1 drivers ever are coming out stating what a remarkable job he is doing thus far. I think they know a little more then we do.

    Indeed. No question.

I happen to believe that he/Ross/Norbert, and indeed young Nico, could very well pull it off. As I've said before, I too could be eating crow, but we'll see. :)

    Cheers,
    Ian

I believe that if the car he drives becomes competitive, he will show his ability once again.
For the time being it seems the car is midpack, at best.
in fact, he might be just the right driver to bring the car up to a competitive level.

    *Exactly* my point :)

He's done it before, multiple times. Why can't he do it again? With the same "brain trust" and Merc $, they've got as good a chance as anyone - I think.....

As for young Nico, I reckon he'd be wise to sit at the masters knee and go for it in 2013..... Plus, it seems Nico will push him, and that's gotta be good..... "I can't criticize the car until I'm faster than him"..... What a teacher/mentor! :)

Incidentally, I reckon Nico's handled the *endless* "your're quicker than Michael!?" comments/questions/nausea whenever a microphone is in his face very, very well - Good job!

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - The % of "yes" appears to be increasing over time...... Interesting ;)

You're absolutely right here, I think Mercedes will benefit from his input. However, the days of unlimited testing are over, and being the best "developer" does not equal being the WDC...

Indeed. He, as with all of 'em, has to be given a "reasonable" starting point - I think he's got that.

Plus, it's the same for all of 'em of course...... If he's the best ever (and I believe he is btw) he'll get more "data" from the limited miles. [Why do "you" think he was giving a "commentary" in Sepang? - Certainly not for fun! - 'Cos he'll overlay the data and learn from it.....]

I wouldn't mind betting he (and the young lad ;)) also develop the simulator as well.

    Cheers,
    Ian
