    Removed the belly pan for an inspection before oil change and noticed what seems to be a small leak fron the joint between the actuator and gearbox(notice the silicone protruding from the joint). There is also some oil present on the bottom of the hose connection fittings to the actuator and the oil is a reddish-orange color. The bellypan was humid with oil right under the gearbox but there was no accumulation. From the pictures you can see that the oil leaked onto the side of the gearbox and settled to the center underneath near the brass colored screw. Are these F1 systems notorious for leaking seeing that they work under extreme pressure? I took a look at my brothers car and he seems to have the same problem. Would it be acceptable to leave it alone or does it have to be adressed right away. I have had no problems with my F1 system to date. BTW the car is a 360 Spider.

    Not all that unusual. Not the end of the world. Probably not being caused by something that will leave you stranded but I have not seen what it is on that car either. Should put it on your list of things to take care of soon but it wouldn't stop me from using it this weekend.

    The bolt holes that hold the hydraulic shifter to the transmission case are not blind. although the unit is sealed to the case with silicone, it's possible the oil is wicking up through the bolt threads. I'd try to see which bolt(s) are closest to the leak then remove them and reinstall them with a dab of silicone on the threads.

    Be careful if you clean that area with brake clean. Some brake cleaners will eat silicone, and you can easily cause another leak if the area is hosed down aggressively. I'd wet a rag with brake clean and go over the area.

    BTW I re-checked the leak with the garage door open and could properly see the oil on the gearbox cover. It is definitely gear oil and not F1 oil. Is it safe to undo each mounting bolt on the actuator and put a dab of silicone one at a time to see if I can rectify the situation or should I leave it for the dealer to play with? It all seems very accessible and I do believe the leak is coming from the actuator to gearbox joint.

    Seems like a sensible approach. The bolt torque would be around 8 ft/lbs or 100 in/lbs. Or just snug. Mark a bolt head, loosen one up and then re-tighten, getting the mark in the same position to get a feel for the proper torque.
