Very common problem, discussed exhaustively. Search under "355 header" for hundreds of threads. Solutions are new ones by Fabspeed.

are you asking about how to avoid or what to do when it happens? Plenty of advice as to what to do after it has happened from buying new from Ferrari, repairing originals or buying an after market header.

There have been some views that incorrect engine tuning may cause high localised hot spots within the header where the exhaust pipes touch.

I don't think you can avoid a broken manifold..:( It's not a matter or if just when!!! Some last more than others but I think at some point all need new ones..:( As others said already use the search and you'll see many threads on this.

    Hej
There is nothing you can do to avoid this problem
WHEN you need to change headers you can find cheaper that original parts if you ask AutoCura or Von Braun. If you want to do it your self, send them to JP exhaust in the UK. about £500 per side...

I think you might be able to avoid damage of the original headers if you remove the heat shielding in time and have been running mostly with the catalytic converters removed. If you remove the shielding and have them ceramic coated I think they may last a very long time. You will now have some air gap around each pipe and of course you have the advantage of monitoring each pipe visually which you do not have when they are shielded.

It should be kept in mind that you probably must provide some additional heat shielding for other parts like the A/C compressor, alternator etc.

PS. mine had only relatively slight damage on ONE header pipe at almost 35,000 miles (56,000 km.) There is hope (but no guarantees).
