Good point, maybe they already do, but it isn't mentioned, there again they are super quick stops as I have seen.

Indeed, funny how it always seems to be Macca that finds out another team has out-cheated them !

Makes ya wonder: what would Bruce McLaren think if he came back alive today.. not just his team, but racing in general.

He would think they are all a bunch of ponces, and all the sncking up to sponsors by brown noses would make him sick.

But the real fault is the over tightening of the rules, which directly means no car has a big enough of an advantage and thus no passing.

Atleast in the old days if the racing was boring the engineering wasn't. Now we have a loose loose situation.

If adjustments are made during pitstop by a crewman maybe it is simply the act of lifting the car by both jackmen??
Maybe some kind of Geneva wheel device at the pivot points when the suspension arms are in full droop and each time the car is lifted or maybe there is a detent at the liftpoint in conjunction with the "device" utilized. It can't be an infinate variable adjustment or it would be deemed illegal. However if it puts it back to it's base setup number each time it is lifted it may be determined to be legal by interpretation of keeping the ride height the same as the fuel load changes not changing the ride height?????

McL have allegedly ceased work on their new suspension seeing how the FIA has come out against adj ride height.

Kudos to Red Bull and Renault who probably now have the most powerful engine. McL had no complaints re Newey when he was working for them...

It has to be either that or the driver, because I've replayed all the pit stops so far (the ones that got close coverage) frame by frame and cannot see any crewman doing anything out of the ordinary.

I think I may have found it!......With thanks to our buddy Natural and his pix.

What is the guy at the front left of the nose up to? I could definitely be wrong, but it looks to me like he's got a big black "lever" plugged in.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

I think the other guy in front has the same thing in his hand, but isn't doing anything.

    That's Jeremy Clarkson with a hammer :p

No, seriously, good catch Ian! Now we need that pit stop in motion...

    Indeed.

So, I went to my trusty Tivo box and replayed the Ferrari pitstops ("Pause" & "jog back" are *awesome* here! ;))

Gotta be honest, while I had a pretty good view, I didn't see anything that correlated with the picture above..... There was a guy on each side adjusting the front wing, but I didn't see anyone "plug a key" into the nose as suggested :(

If Jame Allen is correct; "they plug in a key and turn it", I didn't see it.

    Bummer!

    Cheers,
    Ian

So the two gentlemen in our picture are the wing adjusters?

    Indeed.

The guy standing upright next to the guy on the left has (my guess) a controller for the gantry lights, and there's another guy out in the pitlane.....IIRC, their initial setup had the light-control guy "remote" from the action - Now I'm guessing both these guys have to hit "go" before the lights change......

Another view. I have no idea what the fairly big "thing" is that's almost laying on the front wing however......

Thanks to Natural sharing high-res images, I zoomed in and am now pretty sure it's the doo-hickey they use to clean rubber between planes on the wing....... I think he also has the speed-brace in his left hand.

What are the chances the squeegee thing they use could be utilized for both purposes? All it would need is some type of pin that your could depress similar to draing the air from a tire valve?

    Unfortunately not.

I don't know if Natural (the guy that posts the images) has any - These came from his thread posted here - I wonder if we could put him on "assignment" this W/E?..... Natural, you reading this?.......

BTW - Although large, his pix really are worth the time - He gets places only Bernie gets to! The last set has some great images of Fred's car - Obviously, the right bank let go.....

    :D

I'm just intrigued by James Allen's answer to my Q (on his blog) that "they insert a key and turn it".......

    Cheers,

Is he a photographer or does he have access to pictures from AP, Reuters etc? I remember that one user who owned a media company posted similar sets of pictures, and they were assembled from agency photos. If it's the same with Natural, it might be difficult to put him on aissgnment! ;)

Another interesting one..... The airflow from the "cutback" area on the leading edge of the sideplate is obviously fast.

But underneath, it's effectively zero - The drips come straight down.....

Good question. I don't think that other than (*very* kindly) posting the links he hangs out here much - Maybe time for a PM? [Or would that be considered "rude"?......]

I guess "we" can only ask (?)

    Cheers,

His profile says he's a security manager from Croatia, so I don't think we need to bother him asking if he's a F1 photographer :(
