    Really?

I'm guessing you believe in expensive management consultants too?

I've been at the executive VP level of two public companies who hired "professionals" to produce coordinated global branding transitions (around $1M each) and they were crap. Brands don't make a company....period. I paid $250 a logo to build a company we sold for $32.5M.

At least these guys are honest about the nature of the business: http://www.brandbucket.com/

You know that a logo does not equal a company--sounds like you've been engaging the wrong consultants.

But trolling this site for brand development and citing names like Saatchi? Please...

I build companies were the product and people are the value and the logos and brand names, while not meaningless, do not add much inherent value. If someone is starting a new company and spends their entrepreneurial time and "six figures" on the brand, they are focused on the wrong things.

Holding companies do not need nice names. They are holding companies. They are not operating companies. Also, holding companies don't need business cards until they have assets in them.

When you have something that a consumer [of any type] is going to see/use, then consider branded names. Otherwise you're just killing time instead of focusing on something to do.

Why my harsh response? As an attorney who has represented a fair number of small businesses and entrepreneurs in startup and intellectual property issues, I often have to wear a "consultant" hat to guide a client through early decisions about structuring their business. When someone comes in talking about "Holdings" for X and Y and pie-in-the-sky, and they don't have an operating business already, I know I'm getting pumped for a free consultation and nothing happens. Or, perhaps, they pay me to start up a business entity which I get started then they either disappear, run out of money or decide to do something else.

    Crassus Holdings.

'Cause he was freakin' awesome. Well, the movie character, anyway. Apparently the real Crassus was not so awesome, but hey.

Something I learned that was interesting about George Eastman was that he named his company with a new word that had no translation in any language and was pronounced phonetically, so it was nearly impossible to misspell the word once you heard it. The word was also short (five letters) and used hard consonants. When it was created, the word meant nothing other than what Eastman's business created. For a time, it was synonomous with the entire market.

You all may enjoy this one a friend I came up with.. I don't think I can pull the trigger on it as its just a little too dirty.

    Group 6 in German:

    Gruppe Sechs

    Advantages:

Telling people my employer - I work for gruppe sechs.

If it ever got to the point of hiring - Would you like to join me in gruppe sechs?

I thank you for all the ideas so far, I really shouldn't have put Reich though. I didn't know of its previous use and am regretting posting it as an idea.

    Keep the ideas comin!

    Best,
    Trevor

My fathers company uses a Latin word and the issue with it tends to be that most people have trouble pronouncing it and or remembering how to spell it. Whilst the names do sound classy and proper, the general public just seems to have issues with it.

Why not use your last name? <XXX> Holdings, <XXX> Enterprises, etc? As someone else pointed out, it's a holding company, not what will be branded for each business/product you intend to sell through the companies.
