While the iPhone can do VPN, the bigger question is whether or not it would be able to play the video. It depends on the format of the video.

I have other ways of watching the BBC Feed (the Speed TV feed this weekend was the worst its ever been), but if I do this do you have to watch the race live? Or is it available for a while for you to watch? Does this include qualifying as well?

Yes you can. They have supported the iphone and other devices for a few years now.

I have the pleasure of reporting good success with the StrongVPN setup. My hotel connection wasn't fast enough to stream the reace. I ended up having to download the entire race and watch it with iPlayer Desktop. There was some jerkiness in the playback, but it may have been my laptop. I was using an Acer Netbook, and the processor was constantly pegged at >80% while watching the video. Next time I'll try using a faster laptop or a desktop.

    I consider it a well spent $55.

    Thanks, Vinuneuro for recommending StrongVPN!

Happy to hear it's useful for others too. :)

Btw, your speed back home should be much better for streaming and downloading. I tried downloading the race this morning using iPlayer Desktop, to see how long it'd take. It does it in 1.5 hrs, transfers at 3 mb/s!

I'm gonna give this a try for the Spanish GP. No adverts, pre & post race coverage, plus FP1 & FP3. Seems worth it at $55 a year. Especially with the season heating up.

If you go the VPN route you can download the race from the BBC iPlayer website to your desktop.

Well I'm finally sick of these feeds dying on me during race weekend! I'm giving this 1week trial a whirl! So far so good :D

    iplayer is running smooth!

I even get the USA IP benefit as there are some sites that don't let me view videos due to copyright BS.

    woo woooo :D

Give the test a whirl. It will give you ticks.

F1 isn't in HD so as long as you have 1500 kbps you should see the F1 stream smooth.

My test runs just fine, yet the site tells me that TV is only available in the UK.

The point of the VPN is to give you a UK ip.

...until they announced Legard. That guy is so F'in annoying.

They can also get rid of Eddie 'look at me, I once had a GP winning car build under my name' Jordan. He thinks he knows EVERYTHING about F1 and the drivers and 'how he would run the team'. Guess why you went broke in F1 EJ? Because you ran your team like a effin idiot. He constantly rambles on about how a driver should get fired...You should have heard him yesterday after the Hulk made a mistake.

Saying that he had no good word to say about ANYONE at all yesterday. negative prick.

Oh God. I thought yesterday was so painful it couldn't get any worse with that fool Jordan, but Legard takes it to an entirely different level. If Martin Brundle wasn't also there, I'd probably just go back to watching Speed, it's that bad. Anyone notice a couple times today when Brundle cut Legard off when it was particularly bad.

I agree...Never had the misfortune of listening to the speed commentary as of yet but whenever Legard opens his mouth I keep hoping someone will put him out of his (our) misery.

Brundle is THE reason I watch F1 on a british feed. If anthony Davidson or DC could join him it would be the best ever. Brundle provides us with so much of his knowledge about racing and then Jonathan 'Britannia forever' Legard ruins it all....

Don't forget you get the option of listening to Radio 5(with Anthony Davidson+side kick) I don't think Anthony is commentating this weekend but he does a great job when he is there :D

So I decided to jump in and get StrongVPN. I'm quite happy with being able to stream the races through the BBC iPlayer, except that their stream is in standard definition.

Anybody know of an HD stream for the races?

For HD I've found torrents to be the best bet.

Does anybody know what'll happen next year with the whole Sky thing?
