My F360 F1 jumps out of 1st gear a bit when I stop. Seems to do it more when I've been driving a while and then get into city traffic.

I almost put my foot thru the firewall on the brake but I have to turn the engine on / off a few times and it will select again.

I've taken it to my dealer, they checked the sensor and they said it's all fine.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Find another shop. Shouldn't be that hard to diagnose.

In a manual this would be caused by linkage adjustment or from a shift selector being bent.

    I should have mentioned - it's a F1 gearbox.

You did. You said F1 in your first post. Do what Rifledriver said. Good luck.

Release bearing is most probably sticking on its seleve when hot, This happens alot, not a easy thing to prove with out taking the gearbox out and checking the movement of the release bearing on its seleve to see if it doen't return, but the problem is that every thing has cooled down and will most probably test ok. The workshop can see this thru their tester when recording parameters on a road test if it happen all the time.

The dealer suggested it may be the Clutch Position Sensor?

They asked if the clutch had ever been replaced (no - it's only done 12,000kms)

Turns out it was the brake light sensor - cheap fix. Luck me!!

Did you acquire an understanding of the relationaship/connection between brake light sensor and 1st gear? Such that you can explain it to us non-360 owners? tks

Here's the response from the service dept..

"It runs a fail safe system for the gear box, This means that if the brake pedal is not depressed after a period of time the gearbox will automatically go into Neutral.
It does this to reduce unnecessary pressure from the clutch pack and pressure plate.

Because the brake switch is not working even though you do have your foot on the brake the car does not know this. Therefore after a short period of time it will out the gear box into neutral".

If it's the brake switch that's the problem, then it does sound logical.. and relatively cheap to fix.

This is exactly correct. Sit at a light without your foot on the brake and it will go to N after a short period.

Not all that unusual. Good news too, cheap part and easy to replace.
