    Huh?

Because they don't have a WDC driving for them. Their drivers perform pretty much where they're expected to.

The situation at Merc this year is only comparable to e.g. Hakkinen's comeback to McLaren or better yet Fittipaldi's comeback in his brother's (?) own team.

What if any team has one driver faster than another and thus can collect data about their cars potential?

but not just any team has god driving for them. and the point is, even with god driving, it would've been hard to tell what the car was capable of had there not been a mere mortal driving the other car. If Rosberg isn't as fast as he is, we'd assume the car is a pos based on god's results.

If Rosberg was as slow as Schumi, Merc would lengthen the wheelbase cause that's what Schumi wants anyway. ;)

Spring to mind, though none of them accomplished the feat of punting competitors off the track, was that the accomplishment you were referring to? : )

it was perfectly clear to me from the beginning:) say we had BADoer in the other car along with MS, we'd assume the car is utter crap (which it is NOT) based on BOTH of them sucking. this is not about bashing MS.

It was clear to me as well. A driver should be as fast as the car can be to know it's limits....

It's also clear that this is just another tedious MS bash thread, although barely justifiable in this case.....

The point was clear to me.

If Speed or Liuzzi were the other driver and the car had X lap times the "fault" would be attributed to the car.
As in the case of Red Bull, Vettel replaces Speed and lap times lower drastically compared to Liuzzi's which indicates while both previous drivers were good, they were not great.
If both had been great the fault would be with the car as indicated by Vettels now equal times.

This is the difficulty of judging a car's speed based on team-mate pairing.
Lotus has two quality drivers and the lap times are slow.
Do the drivers suck or is it the car ?
Based on the history of HK and Trulli; the car is indeed the culprit.
While this would be obvious to new team Lotus, with Mercedes it would not have been.

IMO a very astute and relevant observation/thread.

So, by your reasoning, and Rosberg's speed, the car is fine and the culprit is MS so this is a veiled bash thread...

    Thank you. ;):)

BTW, I'm nowhere near being a MS fanboi. When he stepped out of the red car I stopped giving a damn either way....

You could look at it that way if you wish.
IMO the point that is being made is that the CAR is not so bad which would be unidentifiable if MS was the sole standard to measure from and the team-mate was of average quality.

only difference being, Tiger is not sucking (errr, maybe he still is) anywhere near as bad as MS.

You guys are talking about MS as if he was Jesse James, dropped into the middle of a N.O.W. rally! He's a racecar driver and a damned good one... the one who recently reeled off 5 WDC's for Ferrari!

Is this still F-E-R-R-A-R-I chat or did it become a knitting bee? Unreal!

I just read that MS will get a brand new car for Spain. Longer wheelbase. Spain is also a fav. track for MS. He should do well. Fingers crossed.

Quite right, this is FERRARI-chat. Not Schumacher-fan-chat. He drives now for another team, btw...after he said he would never do that.

I can't believe i'm about to defend the jerk but here goes. To me at least, I'm getting the impression that this new breed of car is a real bear to come to terms with. The car MS last drove was nothing like the new cars and they are quite tricky to just jump in a drive quickly, just ask Badoer, Fisi, etc. The only one that seemed to adapt was Algersari and it took him a long time. He also had no prior experience with the old cars. The new cars are understeer prone and MS has a problem with cars that handle that way from what I heard. Also, the testing ban is really hurting him because he used to test constantly in prior years. While I do think he's lost some time as he's gotten older and been away, I don't think he's lost as much as it looks like now.

Isn't it great to finally see MS drive up against a competitive team mate ...
