As a past trophy winner in a Ford no less, this event is one of the best in the area as you have a great car show, and a chance to get your car on the track at the same time.

I will be working the Byron Nelson Classic in my red pants that week and will have to miss this one.

I've been over 2 years now & it has never cost me a penny to get in. You may have to sign a waiver though.

That the facility is not responsible for any damage/injuries if you get any. Done so if you participate in the Lead & Follow drives, you're the one responsible for your own actions on the track.

I want to sign up to drive, but my car is not exactly a track car. Its an 07 2.4l Cobalt SS, Slushbox. It handles like a go cart and has some incredible braking power, but im afraid if I bring it to the track, Il just be in the way. If I had the 2.0l Turbo or SC, it would be a different story, but the SS only puts out around 171. Any feedback? Please be as blunt/honest as possible =D

Sign up for a beginner course during a time when the track will not be expecting a lot of people. This event brings out a lot of folks who really run the cars hard.

Ah, another misguided person who thinks horsepower a fast car makes.

My first track car, and still high on my list is a Spec Miata - does 1:25s on the right day -with under 120 RWHP. The cars that "get in the way" are the big power cars that park in the turns. Now a talented driver with power is faster than 1:25 (Rob runs in the teens in his Challenge car), but still hosepower is not going to help stay out of the way.

Frankly, a guy trying to go fast with lots of power can be a real PITA if he won't ALSO slow down to let folks pass in the straights.

Bottom line: power is completely unnecessary to maintain respectable pace and more importantly have fun on track.

Now, throw RAIN into the equation and then . . . .

Also, this even actually does not bring out that many fast guys. We run 4 run groups and usually have only one of the 4 for fast folks and 2 novice groups. Some of the more exotic cars get exercised prudently, so don't figure you are going to come across a bunch of racers. In fact, there is a Viper racing conflict that weekend, so we may lose a bunch of that crew.

Thanks for the great info guys =) And I definately know horsepower does not a fast track car make, just take a look at the Elise or like you said, a Miata. I was just concerned because I have no track experience.

Looks like I am in! I will be filming as you all usually see me do. This should be a good show to attend for some awesome action shots. Maybe even catch a few rides around the track :)

You're no further than me, man. It's an awesome event & the drive out there can be half the fun if you run into a group going to the same way. :D

LOL, did the same a few years ago in the 540 Sport. 145mph with about 5 cars from the light in Cresson to the turn-in at MSR was a lot of fun :D:D
