I'm thinking to change coolant for my 355 by myself. Do I need to remove both tyre when I drain old coolant? Do I need to use lift? Sorry for the basic questions.... Thank you.
Hi Yoshi you don't need to do either. There is a drain plug under each radiator (hidden underneath a rubber cap under the car). You can access these without a jack. Once you've undone the rad plugs, open the dariator cap and drain the fluid into a clear tray (so you can see how much and what condition it is in). I have 2 pieces of advice for you: 1. Be careful when you go to unscrew the old plugs, as they are VERY poor quality plastic and very often snap. This is not a disaster as you can heat up a screwdriver and melt a new groove into the plug to undo it, but it is a pain to have to do. 2. As per the above, buy two new drain plugs BEFORE you start the job. DO NOT be tempted to re-use the old ones, or likely as not you'll encounter problem number 1 the next time you have to drain the rads or they will snap when you go to screw them in. When you re-fill, simply pour coolant into the top and it will drain down. Let it idle until the thermostat opens and have the heater running on full so that you don't get any air locks. the system is largely self-bleeding but shoudl you need, there is a bleed screw on top of the thermostat housing. Good luck.
wow! sounds great!! I'll try it in a couple of weeks - maybe just after Spain F1. Thank you very much for your tips (I'll get new drain plugs) as well. I REALLY appreciate your response! Yoshi
You should also drain the block. A couple of plugs on each side. 6mm allen wrench if I recall correctly. If you do, get the copper gaskets 10280060. Also replace the "O" rings used on the radiator plugs. Good Luck!
I just called to ricambi america and placed the order for some of them (oh, he is so nice guy!) Thank you for you guys help!!
