Excellent point!! It gets lower, runs cooler, and feels very stable the faster you go. I will never sell this car!!!

Hit 150 on the highway the gtb didn't flinch, but my better judgement took over after that. Just don't tell my wife.

175 and it felt great. The soundtrack is even better than the speed. The next time there is an open stretch I will see if it will pull red line in 6th.
This is what Ferrari's are all about, they are cars meant to be driven....

My wife is very tolerant and we had my Dino 246 GT up to 135 mph between Lubbock and Levelland , TX (perfectly named town, by the way, flat as a pool table) in 1976 or so. Suddenly there was a huge WHOOMPH and all the dirt in the carpets and every where else flew up in the air. Sure I had blown the engine or something similarly dire, I let off on the throttle and put it in neutral. A quick check showed all gauges in the normal range (training from flying fighters, I guess) and everything ok except for the passenger seat cushion, which my wife had sucked up between her cheeks.

Turns out the belly pan, a very large piece of fiberglass, had departed the car after air got in through cracks in the panel. Never did find the bloody thing after searching for a while. Not sure of the aerodynamics of a large piec of fiberglass at 135 mph, but I am sure anyone behind me (fat chance) would have gotten a real show.

No damage done and the Rosso Dino coupe is now Rosso Corsa in Colorado with flairs and chairs added (boo). Not sure if he has a new belly pan or not. Guess I should ask. Car was certainly easier to work on with the belly pan gone.

Jan has been up to 150 mph a couple of times. She just assumes I am insane. Probably correct.

LOL! So that explains why you were driving so slow and seemingly out of control behind me on the way to C&C last month! I didn't say anything then because I thought you probably just needed a driving lesson.

Yes, Mitch, you're probably correct. However, I did say north of 7K rpm. I don't recall the specifics as it's been many, many years since I was stupid enough to go that fast. I do recall the speed, however, as does my passenger.

I prefer to get hit with a Coach or a soft Prada as to a Chanel, Chanel's tend to leave buckle marks that you have to explain.
I always look at the wife's purse before we go out to see if its worth taking the 355 over 70. If it has buckles or sharp edges...I'll say "honey, lets take the Honda tonight". But if it's a soft small clutch....I just smile as I open the door for her in the 355. LOL

I did 260KM per hour for over 30 minutes in recent China drive in a wide open free way for nearly half hour in my 98 F355 F1 and My Borther did 186 mile per hour in his 360CS.... man.. that was FUN... I believed I can do even faster in my F355 but I was kind of affraid that I am pushing to hard in this +10 years old car...

I've only had my '99 about 2 months now, but on a run with the local Porsche Club I was motivated to see how fast the car would go on an open and safe stretch. At about 145 mph, it got a little "floaty" on me and I backed off ! Now my 2003 E39 M5 is rock solid at almost any speed and certainly above 145 mph....

Tire pressure was spot on and alignment has been done.....so what else would account for this ?

It's a Spider and the top was down... so I'm sure this had a lot to do with it....

Well, I know that I am far to be a reference. Neither do I have a lot of experience behind my 348 GTS, nor I have a 355.

But it seems that some speeds mentioned here are just too low!

Let's face it. The 348/355's are sports cars. They only need to be driven relatively fast into an highway access, and then floored for about 2 or 3 miles to get them at 130mph cruising speed.

At least, that was what I have done with my 16-year old (original and unmolested cambelt) 348..... for the first (and only) take out.

Well, even with my 190E 2.5-16v Merc, when exiting highway tolls, I reach the same 130mph before 5th gear in some 5 or 6 miles floored down.

Speed wise, well.... for now.... 130mph for the 348 (only test drive before cambelt service started), 153mph for the Merc....

(PS: last month I was invited to drive a Bugatti Veyron... and it feels almost the oposite of a F-car! The torque is tremendous and it just jumps forward at the blip of the throttle.... And NO we did not reach the advertised 254mph)
