I thought the same thing, until I watched him park across the street I believe it was an Aston Martin Vanquish that time.

Not that I'm aware of for some reason he doesn't own any Ferraris (although a 308 is occasionally seen in pictures of his garage). Sure there is another thread somewhere that discussed why he is not into Ferraris.

The HSS is too small to be the base of a GTO replica.

 

Pics didn't come out great with that phone camera, it was much more striking in person. Wish I'd have taken a few more of the interior, might have provided more clues.

 

look at the location of the gas cap...it should not be on the side...

On the Ferrari 250 GTO, the quick-lock gas filter cap was sunk down into the tail section to minimize drag.

100% replica, and a bad one at that.

 

That looks to be the same Exotic Coachcraft kit I used to build mine from. The kit was $8k, and the Corvette chassis under it is worth over $2k even with no body on it. It's not an easy one to finish, as there are a lot of little fiddly bits in the doors. Almost no home builder ever finished one of these kits due to that reason alone.

The other hard part is the interior. I kind of scratchbuilt mine to give it the Daytona "feel" though I couldn't afford to do the seats. It was fun to build, though.

My guess of the windshield base and the shape of the rear-window is that it is a Datsun 240/260Z. I don't know my early Zs well enough to kow if that is a Datsun steering wheel seen in one of the pictures. The three guages in the center of the dash woukd be a give-away.

You are new here, but Jay Leno actually has an aversion to Ferraris and his collection = 0.

 

There's a very popular 250GTO kit that fit on the Datsun Z........I'd wager that is what this is.....

Jay has had a few excuses for why there are no Ferraris in his collection but my favorite is the one about how "if you buy a Ferrari then you have to buy all the books about them, and do you know how many books on Ferraris there are?"

The more serious answer I've heard from him was that basically any time he's been interested in a Ferrari he's never been able to buy one. There's always 5 people you have to go through to get to a car. Then the car is described as having 24,000 miles, and after a call to Gerald Roush at Ferrari Market Letter, you find out that it had those same 24,000 miles back in 1977. Anyway - I think a lot of different experiences have spoiled him on the brand and so he ended up being more of a Lamborghini guy instead.

GTO replica kit based on the Datsun Z series. Kit was by Joe Alphabet. Ferrari actually sued Alphabet and McBurney, (Daytona replica on Miami Vice), over these kits. I had an Alphabet GTO in the early '80s. It had the full on GTO interior and a Jag V12 dressed to resemble the Columbo motor. It fooled 9 out of 10 people. Some did not believe me when I TOLD them it was a replica. The kits are quite rare. Saw just the panels go for 12k on ebay not long ago. It was a bunch of fun. Wish I still had it. Traded it for a nice Contempory '66 427 Cobra kit car.

 

Just by reading some of the recent threads in the forum, I can see there's a lot of interesting and affluent people with an awesome common interest. I don't own a Ferrari, I have a 350z, hopefully I can join the club sooner than later! Im 25...time's on my side.

Thx for all the replies. I see some astonishing cars pull up to that club, so a 250 in LA off Pier Ave. didn't seem too out of place and it looks like I came to the right place to find out!
