for those who have been to the circuit, i've planned on going to Montreal for the race this year, and i was looking at the ticket prices online on the circuit's website. is it worth the $495 for all three days on the grandstand or is general admission(far more inexpensive) decent enough?

    comments much appreciated,

General admission sucks there. Especially for 3 days. Don't waste your money on them. I will be shocked if anyone disagrees with me.....lol

Depends on the grandstand. Gold GS, across from the pits (start/finish) is interesting because you can see the people you'll recognize ;) sauntering about, the start and closing ceremonies. For the race itself, they aren't all that good, imho. Difficult to see anything if you're in the middle. It depends what you prefer.

There are one or two General Admission areas near grandstands 31,33 that aren't bad for viewing (value wise), you do get to see the cars close up for a few seconds BUT you'll have to be first in line at the track opening on Sunday to get a spot by the fence. Friday and Saturday aren't as bad. Senna curve is completely cutoff to GA.

Summary; one race in NA per year- travelling to attend, go grandstand, no question.

You need a seat! the security even on practice days is tight as can be , no ticket , no seat. & the track is masssive so its a long way around to find a piece of realestate to sit. Spend the money.

Also enter through the casino! get a cocktail & save miles of walking & crowds on mass transit!!

My favorite hotel in the country, http://www.hoteldelamontagne.com/ A Gem in a great city, the rooftop pool rocks, the rooms are great & the dining is 5 star as is the location.

BTW I have been going to Montreal repeatedly for the last 20 years, so I have a decent working knowledge of the city

I have been going to the race since 1996 and have always purchased seats in the hairpin. The view is good and you get to see the cars come in at speed (search Youtube for R. Kubica BMW crash to get an idea of what you might see), get hard on the brakes and then get back on the power as they come out of the hairpin. You don't want to have to jockey for a place to stand to see the action. Every year they seem to install more plastic privacy fence reducing places you can view the circuit from ground level.

Yep. In the early days of this race general admission was awesome, now you are better off sitting at a bar watching on tv if you don't have a seat in the stands.

Grandstand seating is the only way to enjoy the race. The only gripe i have with Montreal is the fact that you cannot get into other grandstands on Fri and Sat.

+1. There really is little in the way of GA viewing.

If anyone wants a hotel room to stay right in downtown Montreal downtown for the race weekend, please do let me. Contains 2 queen size beds. Place is called McGill New Residenc Hall. It is presently sold out.

Price would be exactly what I paid for it which is 336 CAD

I had booked everything well in advance (in January) but now won't be able to make it which sucks big time and the hotel is refusing to refund me anything. :(
