Yes,thanks! It's Jeffrey's old car. We cleaned it up good for the show, but not clean enough to win.

Thats a tall order if you are not in an F40 class by itself. In fact, because the F40 is so 'raw' in character, when in a class side-by-side with other more finely-finished Ferraris, it has little chance of meeting the standards of 'perfection' many concours require.

Good point, but IMO the judges should not let that sway their opinions since that is how the car is. The car is a hand-built "race car" for the road. Not a 360 Spider with leather and fancy trim. The car is raw, and that is what I love about it.

On a side note, if you have ever (and I am sure you have) seen an LM the build quality of those are on a different level. Michelotto are craftsmen to the true sense of the word.

That is true in a properly judged concour. I was one of the Super Car judges at last years FCA's National Meet and can assure you it was not a beauty contest. 288's and F40's particularly are expected to be a bit on the rough side. I have worked on both since new and am quite familiar with the original level of fit and finish.

Calling it race car for the road however is an overstatement. A real drivers car to be sure but deficient in a few areas to be considered a race car.

They took off points for the rear Lexan side windows looking a little foggy. My car is also covered with a poly film which the judges don't seem to like.

The film is specifically allowed unless the application or installation is of a poor quality of workmanship and detracts from the car.

The Lexan windows are a judgement call. Some slight hazing is normal but is also correctable. If it rises to the point the judge considers it detracting from the car or a case of neglect (as I said, it is correctable) you will loose points. I had some polished on a clients car recently and they looked better than when the cars were new. I would not be demanding of that but there are limits.

Andrew, you have to remember that the F40 is a brutal speed weapon that has no intention of looking pretty, and never will be considered a sublime shape in either guise. In fact I think the dark rubber bits add a purposeful intent. Given that the USA cars are unique (six times as rare as the ROW cars), why not just leave them the way they were made rather than subjecting them to elective cosmetic surgery?

Pretty no, but IMO one of, if not the best looking car ever made. In an aggressive way, not in a sissy pretty way. ;-)
