...why didn't Ferrari include a voltmeter in the 348? It seems practical to me....by the time the idiot battery light turns on you are 50 miles from home.

Has anyone come up with a solution that looks good in the 348's?

Traditionally Ferraris have no voltmeters, going all the way back to the 308GTB.

The red indiactor light is an 'over/under' voltage monitor on the output of the alternator.

So once it comes on you still have the run time of the entire battery charge to operate the car........

No idea why the prefer that over a guage indicator......maybe just simplicity in the dash??

One of my cars had an added mismatched one, it's pretty boring running at 13.8 volts all the time, but one time my alternator failed to the high side producing almost 20 volts, and that was handy to see!

It would have done some damage in a more modern car...

Actually I had a similar failure in my other Ferrari, and it blew out the headlamps!! Expensive repair.....

I installed a voltmeter in my F355. With it I correlated a CEL with battery voltage. When running with less than 12.2 V the CEL will intermitently display. When above 12.5 it never comes on. The only time the battery voltage is this low is after the car has sat for more than 1 days without being run and only for the first 15 minutes or so as the battery regains its head.

This is a sure sign of a wiring, grounding, or connector problem brewing.

......I found a device that plugs into the cigarette lighter....has lights that glow when the battery is ok and another that shows voltage below 13volts....anyone used these things before?
