My industry is much to small for any "get even" plays. You just can't let the BS cloud your business or career judgement.
I work in an office with a lady who WAS married to a friend of mine (friends from 1977 to about 1985), when we kinda lost touch in the mid 80's. We kinda lost touch because he started dating her, then married her, they had 3 kids, but I never met her, and she's never seen me (with him) and he's never talked about me AFAIK to her. Fast/forward to 2007, she's been thru the divorce, the company hired me, and I sit about 4 cubes from her, she's been here about 15 years. I reconnected with my friend (her ex) also in 2007, told him where I worked, he asked me if I knew whatshername, and I said yes. She had reverted back to her maiden name. He said if she EVER finds out I was friends with him that I am dead - she has had numerous (now former) employees fired, and I found this out to be true. But it IS fun to hear her talk about her ex/my friend and other names in that circle of friends, but I also try VERY HARD to just stay away from her.
I am sorry to hear about this. What a PITA. To some I can appear a little unhinged, so that works in my favor. But I don't regularly have a problem with these folks. I'm also EXTREMELY confrontational with these types of people when I encounter them. Everyone else I just get along with as long as they stay out of my way. You're either a solution or a problem IMO. That said, I am extremely fair with people, almost to my detriment at times. The thing that works for me is that I can sell like a mofo and my clients like me, so no one ever says anything and people generally leave me alone. A local business reporter called me a "pitbull" a few years back. I dunno about that, I just have zero patience for people who act like self-serving morons. I will butt heads with clients on occasion, too, but that's very rare as we're usually on the same page. I'm in sales, 100% commission - no one ever gives me anything for free and I work my butt off, but purposely get in my way and I will f you up in a major way. If not now, later when you need my help. I have a very long memory and don't forgive people very easily. I hate meddling people and am not afraid to show it or let them know. YMMV! RMX
