This chapter is simple, and brief... The Paupers Run guys arrived in Las Vegas today (5-6-10) on schedule, accompanied by Travis from Auto Gallery with my gearbox. I met Travis at the Encore hotel about 1:00pm to retrieve my freshly rebuilt gearbox and returned home where Phil and I went full tilt reassembling my car. At exactly 10:00pm sharp, we were done, and started the car with all our fingers and toes crossed (no sword crossing!). I put the car in reverse, released the clutch... and backward she went out the garage for the first time in 53 days. Once out of the driveway, 1st gear, clutch release... forward she went! As I made my way down the road, all 5 forward gears shifted like butter and without a hitch! Obviously, once again I owe a million thanks to Ernie and FBB.... but a TRILLION thanks go out to Bruce... my hero!! Thanks also to everyone who gave me support and encouragement through all this! First actual roadtrip is on for Saturday morning, I will add to this thread a full report and pics with the Paupers!!
Awesome! I'm sure it's nice to be back on the road! And only after 53 days... some folks let their cars sit for longer than that with no good reason at all.
Way to go Steve woo hoo, boy that must feel good to have her back on the road. You know some pics would of been nice
Fantastic! Did you take some photos for a future write-up or were you guys drinking too many pale ale or Corona's to bother?
Steve, that is great news, congratulations!! Excellent job by Ernie, FBB, Bruce, and everyone else who asssited including your buddy!! Cheers
Congratualtion! I have been following your threads. Great reading and great ending to a tough journey, good job all of you
Great news and a happy ending Steve. Was following your posted here and when I was in Asia. Sounds like you have some new best friends now! Happy driving! Steve
Thanks a ton guys! I am pretty ecstatic! Needless to say, I want to get some miles logged before I assume all is dandy. But initially, no leaks and no strange noises, and all the OLD strange noises are GONE! I'm bummed that i'm not on the run with the Paupers right now, but I have a 10am appt. that I couldn't get rescheduled... But i'm hoping to meet up with them later this afternoon. I'll keep ya's posted!
Great news! Now Steve...like Bruce says..."Drive it like you stole it". These cars work better when you put miles on them. Which clutch did you put in? Solid or stock?
Some people watch sitcoms, but I've been watching Steve's saga unfold for the last 53 days. You must be one thankful man to have had things turn out as they did! Kudos to Bruce, FBB and Ernie!
I couldn't have said it better myself! And Thanks! Understatement of the century! Have you forgotten that my car has 75,400 miles on it?? lol I am now sporting a single-disc clutch, and a stock flywheel! I have put about 60 spirited miles on her so far... no leaks, no weird noises, no shifting issues, nothing... she drives better than ever!
Right on Steve! Thanks for the update, and I'm glad I was able to help. One more thing though. Could you post up the pic of the original bearing we pulled off the oil pump, especially the pic with the manufacture part number. I think that is a better bearing. But don't panic because you have a brand new bearing in your car. We had to change that old one out anyway because it was pitted, and it was rough to the touch when we rotated it. So if we could get that bearing number off the oil bearing (oil pump bearing), and the pic, I think it will help out the next guy. Again, glad to hear it's back on the road.
