    Did all later 98-99 355 come with Scuderia badges on the front fender? Are the badges frenched into the fender or are they simply applied on top of the fender with adhesive. I know this may be sacrilegious but can they be removed with out leaving holes in the fender or damaging the paint. New, to looking at 355s.

    As far as I know, they are only applied with adhesive ...

    It wasn't all late model 355's, it seems like it was a relatively rare option because I don't see them that often (with the recess in the fender). At least that's what I keep telling myself since mine has it :D

    I second the adhesive theory...I don't believe there's any threaded studs behind there.

    I believe if they are not recessed, they are aftermarket and applied with adhesive. There is an option to have factory shields put on by sending in your fenders for something like $1600US. These would be recessed. I think they are attached with studs, but I'm not positive.
    There is a thread on Ferraichat somewhere on how to remove the adhesive shields with floss and a solvent.

    Paul- Welcome to the forum. When in doubt, look at Ricambi's online parts catalog. This page leaves no doubt the factory shields were installed with bolts into depressions in the fenders.

    Jay- Glad your car has nuts. Mine is a female.

    Interestingly enough, the parts number for the embossed and non-embossed fenders are the same for all the Ferrari models. Ferrari had a press or something similar that embossed the fenders and had a template for drilling the holes for the shields.

    I believe that they were only an option on the F1 models.
    They look really nice.

    yes scuderia shields are an option

    heaps better than the stickers
    but cost lots more

    ok so here's a question...how many models actually offered fender badges recessed in the fender? I've seen newer cars with factory badging that looks just stuck on the surface. Surely a cost decision since it's much more expensive to have a die to stamp the fenders that get shields.

    I think those recessed fender badges started with F40 and went on with 355, 575, 360, 430, 612 and 599. Not sure about if offered on 456 and 550 though.

    Patrick- Available on the 456M only (not the 456) and on the 550. Started on normal production cars (not considering the supercars) in the 1997/99 timeframe and has been available on every car built since then. Has been a profit center for Ferrari, who probably have $300-500 in each set, including the embossing and template drilling.

    Started in 1998. That is when they became available on the 355 and the 456M was released in 1998 which you say also had shields available as an option. Profit is right! But then the entire car is similarly profitable when you get right down to it... ;)

    Shields started way before....the 288 GTO in 1984 was probably the first "production" car with them...but plenty of race cars and one offs had them much earlier than that. There was even a 50 car run in 1994 of 348's called the 348 GT Competizione (Europe only) that had two piece Speedline wheels that looked similar to the ones on the 512M and also came with fender shields.

    The 288GTO was the first Ferrari road car with shields embossed. Most factory shields are "sunk" into the fender. The cars with shields use a different fender that is designed to except the shields, this is according to a factory worker I spoke with. The fender has depressed shield shape, before the shield is ever put in place. When I say "most" road car shields are "sunk" in, I mean the mass production cars. There exceptions to this such as P4/5, and a few other one-offs that have painted shields. You can also have The shields painted at the factory, although it carries a rather large price tag according to the OTO 612 owner I spoke with.

    I have non factory shields (not recessed into the panel). My car will be repainted soon, and I am not sure whether to put them back on or not, since they did not come with the car from the factory. What do you think guys?
