I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who is an ex- F1 driver who drove for both Mclaren and Ferrari. You all know who he is, but can't mention his name. Has raced against Michael, Senna and Prost. No B.S. he said Michael is the most talented out all three. Senna has always been with the best team since the beginning of his career. He rated Prost second best, but said Michael was amazing do to the fact that the Ferrari( which is raced prior to Michael) was complete dog ****. One of the worst on the grid. What Michael achieved with that was amazing. As for him today, he says its like not playing any other sport for 3 years. This is Formula one, not sports car or indycar. It will take him time.
What the hell does that mean? Haugs just grabbing at straws to make something about his "new" team sound good. Fact of the matter is that even though the members involved in Mercedes GP are well seasoned, it goes to show all that glitters is not gold. There may be a managerial presence missing as well that had some influence... similar to the Yankees IMO. you can always have a bad season no matter who your players are. I would just watch out for merc. a year from now similar to how Renault gained competative advantage. _J
The last few years have been simply amazing. Best Ive seen since Lauda's near comeback in Japan. Better. Buy the last few seasons on CD and watch them. I wont tell you who wins
+1 After the end of the Ferrari domination in 2004 F1 has picked up a big notch in drama and surprise endings. Every year was a roller coaster since. BTW: I don't quite get Whisky's penchant for the eighties vs the modern times: Some of those McLaren dominated years were just as boring as the Schumacher/Ferrari years. The only question was whether Prost or Lauda and later Prost or Senna would win the title. Granted those were great fights, but it kinda sucks when the podium always has the same two guys with interchangeable positions on top. And I'm saying this as a huge Prost fan. Yes I was happy for him to win his 4 titles, but some of those years were simply boring. Just as some of Schumacher's were (particularly 2004).
Before Mad Max it was Bala Bala. Same difference. Came also standard with a brown past. You might want to look up the FISA/FOTA war and the pirate races. It was ridiculous. People complain about the USGP 2005, take a stroll back in memory lane check out San Marino GP 84.
You know what? I've never found them boring. There are always 20 or so cars to keep an eye on and usually SOMEWHERE, there's a fight worth watching and some strategy infolding that's fun to see. If all the excitement you get out of watching F1 is being surprised about who wins, then maybe you should start watching WWE....mixing it up is always part of the script (not that it's fake, of course)
That goes without saying. Problem is, that at least in the past (as in the eighties) the TV directors were transfixed on the winners and rarely showed any midfield battles. That's one of the things that got a lot better over the years. Just last race they showed all the interesting mid field battles and only in the last couple laps switched to the winner.
Utter bollocks ... some of those races were the best races we're ever going to see. Great scraps between the McLaren drivers, particularly Prost versus Senna days. I'll never forget Suzuka, never ... fantastic battle. Even in the Lauda days I can remember one of them taking to the grass in a desperate attempt to pass. How can you compare that to MS's team mate blocking anybody from challenging and thus MS puttering around miles in the lead?. Yes there were some great MS races (usually at Spa, and I do remember a Spa after RB was looking competitive in previous races where MS, with a point to prove, just slaughtered him; a wonderful display of driving), but most were as exciting to watch as me lapping in my Toyota people mover. In that case you won't mind that Mercedes will bring back the old SWB chassis for Monaco. Brawn and Haug are hugely disappointed about the lack of speed of their new car.
They shouldn't be disappointed. They developed a 4th place car. I actually thought Wes Gilet had great isight when he said that Brawn really struggled last year with a budget to develop this year's car. They had virtually no sponsorship (Virgin $250K per race) the entire year. M-B's money didn't come in unti after the season. I would expect them to work on the 2011 car very shortly. No one is going to catch Re Bull; they haven't even used their f-duct yet........
5th place by today's result. And if you take Rosberg's 3rd places in Malaysia and China into account you could even say their development went backwards.

That was a lucky 4th place because Hami had a freak accident. Got nothing to do with "hate goggles". Alonso got lucky as well, he should have been 3rd or even 4th. Just as the Ferrari isn't really a 2nd place car, the Benz isn't a 4th place car either.
As I said, a freak accident. One in a million. The McLaren is the better car. Particularly in the hands of Hamilton. If it makes you happy, believe that the Merc is a 4th place car. But I'm pretty sure that's not what Brawn and Haug are thinking otherwise they wouldn't have made public statements after the race how disappointed they were. Same story goes for Ferrari where they openly admitted that they lack aero speed. The 2nd place was flattering and a lucky strike.
