    I had to post this.
    Those Packard V-12's in the PT boats are "Girlie" engines compared to this thing.

    The Zvezda M503 was a maritime 6 row, 42 cylinder diesel radial engine built in the 1970s by the Soviet Union. Its primary use was in Soviet missile boats, which used THREE of these engines. This engine may have had other applications, but due to its extreme weight (12,000+ lb), it would have been limited to ground or naval applications.

    * Type: 42-cylinder Liquid cooled 6 row, 7 cylinder per row diesel radial engine
    * Bore: 6.29 in
    * Stroke: 6.69 in
    * Displacement: 8,763 in³ (143.6 L)
    * Length: 145.66 in
    * Diameter: 61.41 in
    * Dry weight: 12,015 lb (5,450 kg) (dry)

    Components

    * Valvetrain: 7 overhead cam shafts, one per bank.
    * Fuel type: Diesel fuel
    * Cooling system: Liquid-cooled

    Performance

    * Power output: 3,942 hp at 2,200 rpm
    * Specific power: 0.44 hp/in³
    * Power-to-weight ratio: 0.32 hp/lb.
    *********************************************
    Used in the pulling tractor, "Dragonfire", NOT running diesel.
    Check out the supercharger inlet on the front.

    Click on the You Tube links in the original post above and turn up the volume.

    Do a search on You Tube for "Dragonfire" for more videos, there are a bunch, mostly in Germany.

    ...and twice the maintenance and down time, a nightmare, .............................. plus it makes a lousy boat engine.
    (This was mostly for Sparky's benefit relating to the PT Boat thread and yes I know it's Avchat)

    My dad always says with enough time and money you can put ANY motor in ANY car but I really have doubts you could make a Yugo rocketship out of something like that lol

    I wonder how many people actually know who Rube Goldberg is and how he got started. It would be fun to see some of his stuff again. Maybe check with Sparky. He's got that airplane thingy.

    I think Dragon Fire was converted to gasoline. I see what looks like Mags and spark plug wires all over that thing. Besides every diesel tractor puller or Bonneville vehicle I have ever seen under power puts out black smoke like the Queen Mary getting her boilers lit.

    My Father used the name all the time when I was growing up. I looked it up years ago. Some very funny cartoons.

    Yup, I noticed that too.
    That guy has a lot of money wrapped up in that thing.
    I wonder what kind of HP it makes now on fuel.

    Now this sounds interesting. Replace the injectors with plugs that spark. Now comes the carburetor off an R4360 or something. And then the magnetos driven off of what?

    Those long boxes on top look to be for cams for valves or possibly cams to operate the injectors. Whatever they are it looks like he is using the end of them to drive the mags.
