I always understood about Ferrari's that if you wanted to sell one, allow 3-6 months.
So I don't know if the market's so bad, I've seen other luxury cars still sell, I think
it's just that if you want to sell it sooner you will get beat up scraping up offers
from the people who just happen to "be in the room" at the time.

less than 24 hrs on the auction and I have people that I've been in touch with over the last 3 days asking if I'm open to an inspection. Very frustrating. Of course I am, but do it within the time frame of the auction! There's no way I would close the auction contingent upon that!

Remember Drew, that for right or wrong, a lot of folks (buyers & sellers) "use" Ebay as a mere advertising tool --- with many transactions actually taking place after an unsuccessful auction and outside of Ebay.

I'm closing a deal right now for a car I first came across for sale on Ebay (it didn't sell after several listings). For the seller, this is a good thing as you avoid the Ebay commission fees.....

He's right. I have bought two cars privately that I found on Ebay. One I tried to bid on but my account wasn't set up right at the time and the other I contacted a dealer after the action ended. I did buy my last motorcycle through Ebay.

All it takes if for the one right person to find your listing. Some times it just takes awhile.

Then again, maybe this is a sign for you to keep the car a little bit longer!

No offense, but when I see a girl laying across the hood of a car I don't think "Hey I should buy that car"
I think "I wonder what damage she did to the hood and paint, and what it will cost to fix".

You have a great car, but just some well meaning feedback, when it's presented that way it doesn't look like
the "museum piece" it could be. It looks like it could have been owned by someone 'not quite so responsible'.

Don't mean to offend, hope I helped.

    Huh...

I usually think, "If I buy it, does the girl's phone number come with the car?".........

Low pricing scares people off, everyone thinks there is a catch. Detailed service information will be attractive to a TR buyer. Try all the regular sites like autotrader, cars, and F-chat.

The market and buyers have changed a lot and the last number of years. Unfortunately the TR is a car that is very expensive to service vs the performance you get out of it by today's standards.

There are not too many people out there that can't justify purchasing and old Ferrari that will get beaten buy a 350Z, or for that matter a 3 series BMW with warranty attached.

I love the TR and if the funds were right, I would consider this car. I don't think its under priced for the market.

I fear the "car guy" market is shrinking. They are still out there, but the new "cheap Ferrari" to buy is the 360. With prices for early models hovering around 60k, it is the better deal. Service costs are lower and the car overall is a better machine. Easier to drive around town, still recognized as a "new" car etc.

Its a nice car, but you have to find the right buyer for it. It may take some time, but they will come.

I see what you're saying, but I disagree with some of it. I think the current tanking prices are simply economy and employment driven. Cost of maintenance is a concern in today's economic environment, for sure.

But I don't think lack of performance compared to modern cars is a factor at all. Anyone looking to buy a 25+ year old Ferrari (or any sports car) isn't really interested in trying to win stoplight drag races with modern cars. That's never been the purpose of 25+ year old Ferraris. Heck, a modern $40K sports car would cream a $2 million 250GT in any performance contest.

The "car guy" mkt is shrinking, for sure. But that's not because of the cars, it's because of the worldwide economic meltdown. When people feel even a little insecure about their future income, buying a "$10K tuneup" car goes way down on the priority list.

But IMO "car guys" will be back, it cycles with the economy. I think this time, though, it's very possible it will take a long time. I'm not quite sure how $2 Trillion+ deficits are overcome. I don't think anyone is, since it's never been done before. But Americans are born consumers, and can only take austerity for so long. I don't think nice TRs will be $40-45K car forever (like IMO they are now).

of course not. but just because the auction ends doesn't mean that the currently interested buyers get vaporized.

Let me help - i have never bought anything from ebay, never will buy anything site unseen, and i teach my kids this as well....so to answer you... to date everyone that downs ebay buys and has put a car there is Wrong....

for the advertising, i think you may get some exposure and reach many, but i dont think you will get anyone really serious ....and unless its cheap i cant see it(which means below market value) ..... ebay is the modern day sat mornign "garage sale" - or area "flee market"

Finally, i would love to see how many people who actually bought a ferrari on ebay, actually tell people they see face to face (not on fchat) that they bought there ferrari off of ebay .....answer i would bet none -2 people :)

I've bought a Ferrari from eBay. I didn't bid and go through the auction, but it's how I found the car, made contact with the seller, and we reached and closed the deal. It was a great car.

I told tons of people, face to face, that I found it on eBay. Is that bad? I never gave it a second thought. Should I have lied and said I found it on AutoTrader?

There are some seriously confused individuals on here. Ebay is BY FAR the best exposure you will ever get selling a car. I have bought two Ferraris, a Lambo and a 200k offshore boat on Ebay. No, none of them were bought through the auction process, they were finalized after the auction ended, but Ebay is how I found them. You CAN NOT get better exposure than Ebay.

+1 I bought my TR by contacting the owner during the auction to get more information. I told him I was interested in the car but would have to have a PPI and see it in person. 3-4 weeks after the auction ended I saw the car. 1-2 weeks later we did the PPI. I bought the car that afternoon. I tell everyone that I FOUND it on Ebay and bought it after the fact.

so let me ask the 3 of you this then - did you purchase these cars at the same price, lower, or higher than you would have if you went to a dealer ? Everything being relative of course.

Mine was from a private party selling on eBay, I paid what I think was an "average" private party price. I certainly didn't feel like I stole the car, but I don't feel like I overpaid too much, either. It was exactly what I was looking for, I was ok with paying what I paid for it. My guess is it was somewhat less than a "high line dealer" price.

I would almost never buy through the auction process, though. Simply because there just isn't enough time to do the due diligence on the car that I would want. Also, I wouldn't pay to have a PPI done on a car until a purchase price (contingent on PPI) was agreed on. So that makes an eBay purchase through the auction process difficult logistically.

    you were ok....with your purchase.

See when i bought my cars, i was in bliss....because i paid what i thought was fair ...but i got the CAR i wanted.... no surprises.

Everyone person i have talked to , always had sometype of remorse , or had to convince themselves that that got something good.....its hard to |SW|ALLOW once you get delivery, and the fender didnt kindda of look this dull in the pics ? or that nick in the door didnt seem as big...or the best one i heard time and time again.... i didnt think the headliner would be this worn...and im surprised it had this kind of rust bubbling.

and this is after a ppi ... what im saying is, its always buyer beware....and 40k for a TR on ebay...is just another car....hence the problem

I was thrilled with the car, it turned out better than represented (really). I was "ok" with the price. I thought the price was fair, but I usually like to pay a little less than fair when buying a car.

As far as buying a car long distance and it not being what you thought, that's a long distance buying issue, not an eBay issue. eBay is just an advertising source.

Lots of Fchatter have put their Ferraris on eBay and sold them successfully, they were good cars and had documented happy buyers. There are at least 2 current Fchatter Ferraris on eBay that I know of, and they both seem like very good cars.

On the other hand, there are Ferraris at dealerships, on dealer websites, and not on eBay, that I personally know some of the history on, and wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole (lots of problems, issues and history not being disclosed, either in the words of the ad or the nice shiny pictures).

Putting a car for sale on eBay, or anywhere else, does nothing to change the condition of the car, or make it a better or worse car.

If I may offer some points. I think your car is quite unique, however at the end of the day the color combo will only appeal to a select few. I also think you should post some better pictures of the seats -I am sure many are wondering how they look close up, not to mention that seems like some extreme bolster wear for a 14k car. I would also show a picture of the tool kit, books, keys and what you have for service records(besides what you have done) to me it makes the car look more complete. Good luck with the sale, however I will warn you that if you don't have a really good reason for selling your car, you WILL have sellers remorse for sure-take it from someone who has been there already. BTW what the deal with the antennea in the left qtr panel?

Drew, just hold on to the car for a few more months. I think you should get your asking price. Its just a matter of marketing the car to find the right buyer. Perhaps, putting it in the local paper or Dupont REgistry will help too.

+1 patience......A TR is not like selling a civic. Its a small pool of buyers, and will take time to sell. Nothing wrong with EBAY (lots of exposure). Although I would never buy a car sight unseen on EBAY thru the auction process, I did find mine on EBAY, contacted the seller and told him we could talk after the auction nonsense was done. In addition to EBAY, try autotrader and cars.com. Last cars I sold, I got good exposure on those sites (Porsche & Vette) Good Luck

IMO there is no better way to tell the population that your TR is for sale than EBAY , if somebody is looking for a car to buy , Ebay is where they will go , whether it will sell or not thats another story, but somebody will see it and tell another who is interested, I think its just that everybody who has money is holding it and the rest is struggling to make ends meet, I think you car will sell , its only a matter of time . Good Luck

    Dear Ferraristi,

    Bawhahahaha!

Two exotics are enough! While I love the "Vice" car....I'm really a red guy. I still hate the tan interior and prefer black....but what ya gonna to do.

My Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster is Monterrey Blue on Snow corn....WHITE ! with black dash and black carpet.....the proper VT Roadster combo.

...I still prefer red on black....even for my Lamborghini....but again...what ya gonna do. :D

Funny....while I admire the technical and even some of the minor aesthetic improvements of a 512 TR, I'm very happy with my 91 Testarossa, that I really don't feel the need to "upgrade".

....plus, I really really like the badge "TESTAROSSA" on the back....very special meaning to me.

    Oh yeah... FREEZE.....MIAMI VICE !!!!

....oh Drew....you're gonna regrettttttt it. Sell the 328....it's not a supercar....just an "8"
