Pretty cool! Ugh...wish I could see this. I have a damn final exam at exactly when launch is suppose to be. I won't wish for a scrub, though. Too many people are coming out to see this and have never seen one before. I saw the last two night launches up close (technically STS-131 rose at dawn)...awesome.

Looked like a great launch in person (from 40 miles away).

I went to the beach and got there at 2PM and walked North for about 45 minutes and didnt see anything:(

Asked a few people on the beach if they saw anthing but they were all foreigners and had no idea of what I was talking about.

I BARELY saw from here in Tampa! WOOOHOOO!!! I was taking my final exam (1st year med student) and perfectly timed a bathroom break to walk to the window. I barely caught the exhaust trail as it went into a cloud...then it disappeared and I wasn't able to see it come back out. Oh well, still awesome!

Although there are two "official" launches left, I'm pretty sure this was not Atlantis' last launch. It will be re-prepped after landing as the rescue mission (STS-335) for STS-133 in September. NASA will argue that they should be able to launch a completely ready Atlantis as STS-135 and I'm pretty certain they will be granted it. I mean seriously, it will be on the pad 100% ready to go other than fuel (500k gal).

How close are you???? Closest I've ever seen a launch was from the Astronaut Hall of Fame. Wish I could see one closer. :(

I was on the Center, a few hundred yards NW of the Vehicle Assembly Building. A benefit of the job, I guess :)

If you take the road off of US1 from just south or Edgewater that is on the left, it will take you thru a state park that runs along the intercoastal. If you follow it all the way for about 10 miles, it will bring you right up to the entry gate for Cape Canaveral and you can see the assembly building about 2 miles down the road. If you make a right, it takes you back to US1, but before that you will see a hill on your left, and that is where the shuttle lands. If you make a left before the entry gate I think it brings you up to PlayaLinda Beach which is the closest spot for watching the shuttle launch. Dont know if they let people park next to the runway where it lands or not when it is coming in,but it would be fun to see it coming in for a landing.

Once i was at a traffic light on US1 and a rocket carrying some secret satellite was launched, so it wasnt announced in advance. Scared the hell out of me since I just saw it going up and a cloud of smoke behind it.

Playalinda (Canaveral National Seashore) closes 3 days prior to launch and re-opens the day after launch.

    Thanks.

So with 2 launches left.... is there one spot that is best to watch from?

I'd think a beach would be cool, so you'd have something to do before and after, while waiting for launch and traffic to clear.
