I wish I did. No kidding. Someone got taken to the Cleaners. But this does explain the $50k Pothole posted earlier. Total farse imho. That's why I loved racing Porsches for years. While not cheap to play still reasonable to some extent. Crap just noticed I wrote Caliper. It was Rotor........My bad
By "farse" do you mean "It's BS that they cost this much" or do you mean that "you do not think the story is true"?
I had the invoice in my hand saturday. I mean Ferrari is way too spendy on standard use parts. Ferrari NA sold 1 million in parts at 1 Ferrari Challenge race in 07. You think there was any markup there? I was required to put 90k in spares on the truck for a one year racing season the year I almost raced FC. that was on top of the new challenge car. It made it easier to race another year of gt3 cups for sure.
I have owned a 355 and 360, now looking to get back in the market and looking at CS and 430's. Can someone provide me a link or info or maintenance differences between the 2. Thx,
The major difference is the 360 has a timing belt that needs to be replaced according to Ferrari every 3 years. This cost ranges from 3k to 4k depending on where you get it done. The parts are so close for everything else it's a toss up.
Then you better stay away from any 430 or other Ferrari iteration with CCBs because they are all expensive. Same goes for Porsche with PCCB. Reality is, for street use, the brakes will last for an extremely long time. For track, you would switch them to steel anyway.
There in lies our NW issue. Our dealer is very expensive and they guarantee shops doing the service cheaper are not doing it correctly. There are 2 ways to change the belt according to them. Basically a quick and dirty way that can cause further problems down the road or the correct way. I'm not sold on it yet and my CS needs a service this year as well. I haven't determined which way to go yet.
Great thread. I do miss my car and always keep an eye out for it. I think if you are buying a garage queen and hoping to experience appreciation later when prices firm (if!) then keeping the ccb is essential but for a driver that you are picking up for $120 ish, I would go to a good aftermarket floating rotor. You could do all four corners with brembo or stoptech 6 pot kits for what, $10k? Not cheap but the savings would pay for your maintenance and some good vacations too!
This I like. Something I've not thought about. Plus with Brembo I could change out my caliper color to Red simply.
I haven't sent you a PM....... Who are we waiting on buying now. Jason has backed out as he's stated I was scared off by the 50k brakes. I think he was the last one in here looking for a car.
Sounds like a scare tactic. The indy shop I use came much more highly regarded than the FNA dealer in the area.
I don't disagree. I've not wrapped myself around it there pricing and I believe they need to revisit it. What I will say is the 1800 timing belt change can't inlude any Cam Indexing and resealing. This is a major portion They say is left off at dealers that just throw a $300 set of belts in without visiting anything else.
I agree my indy has serviced all 5 of my Ferraris over the years. I have never had a problem nor have I ever had somebody I sold a ferrari to come back to me and complain of any issues. Granted this particular shop specializes in exotics..........the 2 owners have been in the business for longer than they probably would admit Its all about finding a GOOD independent shop.
funny thing about stokpro is everyone on this site believes he doesn't have one. This I've not figured out. possibly because people think he's posting information about them to hurt sellers and help buyers. he's an information guy. that's it he just loves these cars. I wouldn't have bought mine without talking with him first either. He should get paid for his services imho So possibly with Jason out of the picture.....NO ONE IS LOOKING on this site. Interesting to say the least
we have a local shop people really like thats an indy. tons of people use him and he's also 40 miles closer to me.
Funny you might be right. maybe Rob should close it now? 13k plus views.....maybe there is some interest
If the $1800 belt swap sounds good you likely don't care your down 20HP as the cam timing is not ideal. Emissions will be higher causing premature exhaust manifold and catalyst failures, intermittant check engine or slow down lights. You likely do not care when the cam seals are leaking down the motor. You get what you pay for and there is far more to be made to correct a $1800 belt change then there is doing it properly the first time. Keep having them done and I will keep fixing them.
