But, they *did* know what he said! - We're not listening to R/T exchanges - We don't know how old they are, but we do know that they're not R/T..... (?)

Somebody, somewhere (McL it seems), chose to broadcast that particular exchange.......

    Cheers,

They let it go out not knowing what he was about to say and once they let it out there's no getting it back. At that point it doesn't matter if the TV airs it live or on delay.

That's where we (respectfully;)) disagree..... My understanding (& I could be wrong of course) is that outside of the FIA the teams control their exchanges - They then choose which to broadcast - IIRC, Matchett said "typically within a lap" at some point. (?)

    Cheers.

Understood and agreed but as I understand it the teams open the radio link before the transmissions happen. They can't go back and veto using them once the cat is out of the bag.
    But I may be mistaken.

Teams control their transmission to the TV broadcaster in real-time (and all comms go to TV by default). Because we don't want to hear all the radios all the time, there is a significant broadcast delay as the director decides which broadcasts are significant enough to "interrupt" the race. There's really not much reason for a team to ever block any transmission, since FIA and the other teams have access to all of them.

You say this like it is fact.

In reality, the standings are Alonso 75 / Hamilton 59.

Additionally, if you are referring to me when you keep bringing up his wheel failure, I would quit while you're behind because I said that I would reserve judgment until I knew for sure.

The bottom line is, yes, Hamilton's piss poor attitude and red mist is keeping him from being a complete driver. For yet another example, one only needs to look at Monza '09 when he lost control and valuable points in an impossible attempt to catch up to Jenson Button. To those that say being a complete driver is "BS" I have only one name for you: Michael Schumacher - I guess that BS can win you 7 titles eh?

Interesting (if true ;)) - I didn't think that was the case, but will happily stand corrected if the above can be confirmed.

    The FIA - Yes.
TV director - I'm still not sure. [I'm not trying to argue btw, just interested ;)]
The other teams - I know that wasn't the case a few years back - They were encrypting the traffic - But I don't know if that's still allowed (?) or if it now has to be "open".

    Cheers,
    Ian

Uncalled for and unnecessary IMHO. This place would be pretty boring if it was just a bunch of Ferrari, Fred and Phil boosters. Steve is fully entitled to voice his (some would say misguided;)) support for Hammy and indeed made a valid point about Hammy-hate - He was indeed labelled as a robot etc when he first appeared. Now he shows he's not, he still gets lombasted - Which is also fine of course - Many viewpoints has gotta be good for the boards, calling someone out for voicing their view, not so much.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

It is a fact. They both drove the same identical car - Hamilton won. That was his rookie year, too.

By that rationale, Barrichello is faster than Alonso, since he "beat" him last year. You know better than to compare drivers in different cars, unless to try to salvage a losing argument :D

[qoute]Additionally, if you are referring to me when you keep bringing up his wheel failure, I would quit while you're behind because I said that I would reserve judgment until I knew for sure.[/qoute]

    Are your ears burning?

    Piss poor attitude... LOL.

No, the point is that some just hate the guy, because he is the fastest driver on the grid, he's rich, he's got a smoking hot girlfriend, he drives a McLaren, or whatever other reasons they hate him. They find fault with everything he does. That's why there is no shortage of commentary about him.

Button threw his TV remote (which is given to the driver in the pits and supposed to be taken out by the mechanics before he leaves) out of the car in Rascasse. Alonso has had more than one meltdown on the radio. Vettel has had issues with his team (refusing to come into the pits). Massa has too. They all have.

Yet the only threads we see are about Hamilton. Always Hamilton. Again and again, Hamilton. Some folks are obsessed with the guy.

    Honestly, that's an excellent point.

Wasn't it Rubens who threw his steering wheel after his crash? That seems far more worse than a few choice words to his crew but we don't see a thread here about it...

Yes Mike is right, and to me if I jump to the defense of Hamilton it is because there are so many things called out about him that IMO I feel unjust, however I would apply the same rationale about any other driver.

Take the case of MS, well if your a die hard fan he did nothing wrong, and I can understand that view completely, however if you hate him he deserved it, he was always a cheatin sod!

My own feeling was, it was a pure opportuistic move and good to see, however whether right or wrong it was totally wrong to have been given the penalty given the confusing circumstances.

My point is like him or not I think thats a fair call, and I would say exactly the same thing if it had been Hamilton.
