I will do more shakedown driving AFTER THE RAIN STOPS and keep you posted. Meantime here at long last are some new pics Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bob, It is as simple as the rubbing blocks on the new points having a break-in period where they get saturated with grease and polished down a bit. Yes, the stuffed Lamborghini Bull would be nice! Gus
Gary, My Espada runs at 90c even on a hot day. I re-cored my radiator to insure coolest possible running. I did not trust the 35 year old radiator to cool well in the hot and humid midwest. I was smart enough to not tell the radiator shop what kind of a car it was from so it only cost me $435.00. Do you have a thermostat?? It would be located in the center tube toward the radiator (ask the mechanic if he remembers seeing one) Gus
Looks spectacular Gary and I love those plates! You paid dearly for them ... Just to following up on what Gus sees on his gauges. When it's cold out my car runs between 70-80C and it's steady. So I know that's what the thermostat controls things to be and at cool outside temperatures the system functions properly. If it's getting higher than that when it's warmer and mine certainly does then you know the cooling system doesn't have enough capacity. My radiator is very clean but it's an old design and those pusher fans are not real good either. So after you run down all the issues with pinging and potential timing issues if it's not better maybe a start with some upgraded fans and keep the old ones for the purist next owner? But you'll never sell right? ;>) John Allot over on VLG has done some on his SIII. Shoot him an email. Bob S.
Hi Gus, I'm not following you on this one. The claim was that the points were stuck "closed". Thus if at least one of the points in a parallel pair never open there's no spark generated. The cam it what opens the points by pushing on the contact block thus wear on the contact block of the points wouldn't improve that situation. So maybe the story about the cause of the problem got muddled along the way? Maybe the adjustment slipped and one was closed all the time as a result? Glad I got rid of that 1920's?? technology. Bob S.
Water wetter (or similar products) work with Prestone antifreeze (do not use the Dex-cool product). Also ensure the antifreeze used is aluminium compatible. You can get a cheap gravity meter at Crappytire to check the current products mix. If your timing is off, you motor could run hotter. The old points system need to be in perfect working order advance cams and all, where the Pertronix gives you clean fire all the time Note: the pusher fans are less effective than the pullers and if like mine they ae probably over an inch away. If you have bubbles in your clutch bottle ensure all lines are properly sealed. Did you flush the clutch slave sytem when you did your brake sytem. Looks good, and yeah I like the personal tags too! Last personal piece of jewellery for your baby. Denis
thanks guys for all the input I am taking notes to meet this week. i am going to meet "UGO"a 60 year old plus FACTORY trained lambo mechanic who i found out works for his old bosses son less than 20 mins from my house . I knew about him before my engine rebiuild but he was in Italy in the fall . Good to know he will sort me out .If I had more space I would gladly take alot on myself but good to have a guy like this at your disposal. Gary 8394
These photos were taken a couple of minutes ago in Paris by my brother in law. Very nice to see such a car in public. It seems to be an early series II with still the knock-offs. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Owner is a LCB member and a friend since. He bought it in USA and imported it last year after some difficulties...with customs. He was disappointed when he collected it... but now everything is fixed !!! He used it often, like I do with my "toy" : everyday used each sunny day !!!
hey guys i added a bottle of Royal ice (same as water wetter 0nly different mfgr) and the temp dropped by about 10 celcuis! Also added more octane boost and no run on after the key is shut off! Still playing , still experimenting , still learning still getting advice ...... thanks again Gary 8394
was on my way to Karaoke (its true) last night and took it up to around 6000rpm then proceeded to get off the highway and off went the timing misfiring hissing popping and then the usual backfire. same symptom as last time exactly. So after awating a tow home and finally meeting up with everyone 3 hours later had really nothing to sing about !!. So today being a holiday off I tow to mechanic tommorrow for more massaging . Pertronix is looking better all the time. Where is the best place to research this and maybe even buy this? Gary 8394
hey gus ; I do in fact have a new thermostat put in last fall during the rebuild . The paint shop used premix to fill the rad so i will try diluting with distilled water but i have to say this Royal purple "royal ice droppped my temp by about 10 c! the saga continues Gary 8394 p.s. BTW first time for getting it to 6000rpm sound was incredibly smooth and menacing dont ya think
Gary, you can't buy a simple "kit for Lamborghini" unless they changed something recently. It's not a difficult install but it's also not a weekend DIY project either. Did you follow the link I posted earlier when someone else asked about it? Read that. ALL OF IT. No skimming allowed. That should give your or your mechanic an idea of what's involved. I'm certain he can do it. But I also think you can and should figure out what's wrong now. Old fashioned points systems can be made to work just fine. I can't say with any certainty what's going on with your car but the explanation I heard last week didn't make any sense to me at the time. But I'm just guessing from afar. Have your dizzy checked and the points set on a Sun machine. A sick distributer can wreak havoc. You'll get there Gary. You're quite aways ahead of me at the moment. Bob S.
Yeah, that's funny it didn't work for me either. Maybe you have to be a member of VLG and be signed into Yahoo Gary. It's just one of the files over there in the files section, it's a word document. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/VintageLambo/files/ Then select Espada Distributor Coversion 2 . doc
Seems like this Espada has been on Craigslist for months..... http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/cto/1758167893.html Mike
If it was a Series One, I would have bought it already. Are there any S1's for sale that is not in perfect condition?
hey bob got your email today just too busy to respond . noinews on the car yet its distributor with mechanic will know soon Gary 8394
Remember this one from Ebay? http://cgi.ebay.com/Lamborghini-Espada-1972-/300431061308?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item45f316313c Well now it's back on and he has included a clip of it driving down the road! Won't work for LHD countries but it sounds OK and ... it's green! Bob S.
Gary, I recieved the Espada scripts yesterday! I feel bad about your issues with your points. I had one set that kept coming out of adjustment and I found that if I turned the washer over on the screw that holds them down, the points hold their adjustment better. This worked for me. Yes, it would be nice to eliminate the points. I may consider it in the future if I can find a setup that will work with my Bosch box's. Gus
