Actually, her acting debut (as "Betty Bacall") at 17 was on the Broadway stage. She was 19 during the film shoot. Howard Hawks' wife "Slim" (whose nickname was loaned to Bacall's ToHave character) spotted Bacall on the March '43 Harper's cover, which prompted Bacall's screen test at 18. I've heard tell that the "you know how to whistle" line was written for her screen test, and Hawks was so impressed that it was included in the film. (Which is why "Slim" calls the Harry Morgan character "Steve" throughout the film -- "Steve" was the name in the screen test. Although it's since been rationalized as short for "stevedore".) ........ hijack over We now rejoin our episode of "jerks in Ferraris", already in progress.
I just like the sound. I dont know that I accelerate any faster than I do in any of my other cars, but I do like to rev it higher before shifting just to hear that wonderful sound. PDG
Awesome, it is a lot more enjoyable to read a thread about driving rather than money, or cars owned lol..
having just bot a v8, i can attest to the difference in driving style from when i am in one of the 12's. i tend to accelerate in spurts in order to hear the fantastic exhaust sound. the 12's are more refined (with the possible exception of my bbi), and all have stock exhausts which are not particularly noticeable. so i will admit that this driving style is pretty sophomoric, but there is a reason....and even more so in tunnels !!
So out of the 1,000s of V8 drivers on the roads, you're trying to make a general statement about everyone after seeing only 9 of them? Do they not teach mathematics in "Scandinavia"? What's up with that?
1)That's not called mathematics, that's called statistics. Did you not even know that? What's up with that? 2) I base my comments on my observations, not on statistics. Statistics are boring. Don't ask how I know. And if you knew statistics you would've known that you don't need thousands of observations (for the "1,000s of V8 drivers on the roads"), but only a handful representing the drivers is enough to draw usable conclusions. 3) I could use SPSS and make an answer based on the level of correlation between V8 Ferrari drivers and this particular driving style, but I see no point - as this thread was not intended to be that serious and the point was to share thoughts.
i am one of the major noise makers. i admit. the sound is what my uncontrollable poor driving is all about. i know this is about Ferrari but my V8 Maserati's are right in there at the excitement level for heavenly sound. from my Bora 6000 max thru indy to the newer 4.2 CC i love that sound. my V12's do OK but they are smooth and sophisticated. even the little V6 maserati's sound great. mufflers, why! just about everyone between my house and work would like to strangle me and i deserve that i am sure. when i hear motorcycles zoom by i remind myself that i am guilty
I'm willing to guarantee that the majority of people here are guilty to at least some extent^^ Me included..
