I think a lexan or similar airbox would look good for about 15 seconds before the standoff coming out the TBs made it just looked dirty and bad. That’s one of those things you throw on once you get to a show and take it off before you leave……it is really a show car only kind of thing so I’m not seeing why it’s better than a proper cover that pops off for show???

I just threw that out Mark. ;)

But for a show it would be great - will also keep "things" from entering the intakes during a show.

Does your airbox have an arc to it? If so, it's gonna be a little tricky to cut the fins in it. It all is looking just perfect. :)

That's what they make tennis balls for. ;)

Actually for these trumpets I think squash balls would be just about perfect.

Those ITB's are bigger than you think. They came off a Ducati I think you would find that a tennis ball would fit perfectly. This thing is going to flow heaps of air ...

As for the airbox I think Mark is trying to make it look factory, otherwise a single piece of glass above the ITB's ...

Knowing MasterMark- he will measure the arc, heat it, deflect it to 100% horizontal, mill the fins, reheat and restore the original arc.

Or... eyeball and get it perfect.

The top is curved and will be a bit of a pain to machine. It’s a pretty gentle curve so I’m thinking 3 angles then blend the corners a bit and it should look pretty good.....so basically eyeball and call it good enough ;)

I’m thinking a much bigger than stock radius on the 4 corners will look better with the extension I added making them look like they belong.

I got a 4.5” horse on ebay last night for the center, it should be here is a few days so now I’ll need to decide how to frame it. On my supercharger intake on the QV I set it in an oval and it looked nice but someone pointed out that Ferrari never used an oval of any kind, always a rectangle or the shield shape….but an oval looks nicer IMO……or I could send it to someone with a CNC (hint hint Sean) who could cut a shield with an S F around the horse, that might look good (and probably be a trademark infringement).

The TBs are big and the stacks even bigger.....tennis balls will drop into the tapered stacks and get stuck when they hit the throttle plate I think with no way to get them back out. Softballs might be about right ;)

    Mark,
I don't know if your can keep the "quattrovalvole" moniker. You might have to change it to "venti-quattrovalvole"!

He does fit nicely in a shield. Maybe "M" and "E" to avoid SF issues? Or skip initials and just use the shield. Cool any way you do it-

    Thanks.

Now you're going to go into withdrawal though when you try to follow at normal speed instead of 2 1/2 years in a couple nights :)

It's going to be a bit slow slow this week too and maybe into next week....work is interfering with car time as they seem to think I was serious when I said the product would be ready to launch this summer........clearly they've never seen this thread ;)

Hey, don't forget the yard work.

I got 10 yards of mulch being delivered tomorrow morning, I hope they don't show up to early.

It seems I got a chinese copy of a ferrari horse. It's a casting which is fine, but it was never polish properly before plating so it's a matte finish....it'll have to go back.

I set it in place to have a look.....I like the idea just not the part.

As a mere lurker, my opinion shouldn't and won't count for much (a good thing)... However, I have to pipe up and suggest that you don't put the horse or shield on there. I think you will end up looking closer to what the factory might have done if you go with just the existing script and red crinkle. You have done such a classy job that it doesn't need extra accesoriea to pull off the look...

I'll get back to the lurking again!

Me too. First, let me say I think this is one of the most incredible projects I've ever seen, and I am totally addicted to it! I really only check in on this site every day to see the latest on this car. So nothing but respect, admiration (and some envy!) from me.

But I think the donkey on the airbox detracts from the engine. One of the greatest things about the project is it will look like something that could possibly have rolled out of the factory in the 80s, including that amazing resized plenum. The thing is, overuse of the Horsey really has been more a creation of the 2000s (IMO). So it's out of place in an 80s vibe engine compartment. Plus, this is an engineering marvel, the chrome donkey is not from the engineering dept, but from the marketing dept. Keep it all business! (You're not going to put fender shields on it, are you?? ;) )

Anyways, just the opinion of an enthusiast/lurker.

personally, my taste is to not go for the Cavalino... too much of a good thing. Everyone wil know it's a Ferrari without it.

I remember once getting into a Chevy, it said Chevy on the dash, Chevy on the glove box, Chevy on the seats, Chevy on the door panels... all chromed...(well actuall it was "Chevrolet" and the model pasted just about everywhere.

I'm not much for bling for the sake of bling, and the real "bling thing" is the engine itself and it certainly can speak well enough for itself without too much "extra" reminders of it's origins.

Maybe you should have your own "designer label" as tuner put on the air cover as it your handiwork that made it and made it possible. It is as much an offspring of yours as it is of Ferrari.

If any a horse must me on it, I would find it a bit more tasteful to make it smaller and a bit less a bit less prominant and let the engine speak for itself, as Ferrari itslef does in the engine bay of all their cars.

No horsie, just fins and no bling, everyone knows its a ferrari......OR like the 3200 designation on the 3.2 put on a 6000 or whatever displacement it is for the OEM look.
