Wow, looks like it will be a purpose built track and will host the USGP until 2021. Definitely will make an effort to go to one of the races.

    Great.

Hard to believe it's not NASCAR.

    I am stunned.

I think I'd rather see no USGP than that location.

    what?

I haven't read any articles on it yet, but if Bernie is saying its true, then it would be more believable.

As a local club racer I've kept "track" of all the planned tracks in Texas last 10 years. There have been at least two dozen that got as far as buying land, selling memberships, and a couple even planned for F1 and other pro races to compete. Only about 3 actually became a final reality and none of them met expectations as far as hosting pro races, much less F1.

I hear ya' Ian. It looks pretty legit (based on the press release, analysis and its positioning on formula1.com).

So how many times have you been to Austin and what were your bad experiences that appear to make you not like it?

I could be wrong, but I'm interpreting this as a purpose-built track will be constructed between now and 2012. I was hoping for your perspective on this...I wonder *where* in Austin they are planning on placing the track.

Oh yeah...and so far no Tilke mentioned. I won't hold my breath...just wishful thinking.

Just FYI from someone that was born in Austin, it really is a very cool town! Plenty of hills too, hopefully they build a course with elevation changes.

This sounds like it's got as much chance of happening as the US F1 team.

This Tavo Hellmund doesn't sound like he's got any money... http://www.racingwest.com/drivers/tavo-ct-hellmund/

He can't even seem to come up with the money needed to properly run a junior Nascar series, so where the hell is he going to come up with the 9-figures needed to build an F1 track and pay Bernie his fees???

Yeah, unless someone wants to explain to me where the money, and a LOT of it, is coming from I'll believe this one when I see it.

Also makes me wonder if Bernie likes to see Americans fall flat on their face whether a race, team, or driver. The more build up and publicity before it happens the more he laughs.

As many people can stay as they want. Place does smell a little fishy though. :)

This is more smoke and mirrors than the Donington deal.

    Seriously.

    Ain't gonna happen.
