    good day everyone,

    a friend of mine told me about this discussion, i was very happy to see some of you liked my car.

    i did this project in my spare time, after work. like i said, happy some of you like it. My GTO was by no means meant to challenge the beauty of the original 250... i have no doubts about its place in history, imho its one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Take my GTO for what it really is, just a fun project outside of my professional career.

    Let's take a step back from the shoot-first, ask questions later, design bashing, Jeremy Clarkson review style and look at it for what it is.

    This isn't Pininfarina, this is a young aspiring designer's interpretation of the 250 GTO for 2012... clearly it's no 2010 model year.

    I'll first note that the front has a bit too much Zenvo ST1 for me, and the 3/4 makes me think of an Aston One-77, but other than those TWO critiques, there is STUNNING attention to detail here. Both the modern aerodynamic take on the hood-vents, and the very modern rear end are very well executed for an over forty year design evolution.

    ...Shows just how much thought went into this project. It's a complicated design, but not cluttered. The details make you think, and give me a sense that if I were to see this car in person, there would always be a new detail I'd notice... The apparent fuel filler-caps are perfectly vintage and as they are placed within the rear-window amidst the carbon fiber structural bits, it certainly gives the impression something important is going on here.

    For me, this car screams Ferrari. Maybe not contemporary Ferrari, but it shows clear Ferrari influence for a car a few years off. The profile shot below:

    ....is stunning. The sporty, bolstered seats give you a real feeling this thing is not a toy. The wheels and headlights IMO, are pure Ferrari and I love the high down force front end. The protruding diffuser and two tail-pipes are a great design detail as are the perfectly subtle classic side vents and well executed rear vents behind the wheels.

    If your'e looking for design consistency, this does break the mold. However, let's try and think about where Ferrari got the 360 from the 355. If this car does anything it sticks it to Ferrari as a fully designed car by the name of GTO and not just a special edition trim level on an existing model.

    Guilty as charged...I thought the 27 car showed a lot more potential than other designs by other people (some appeared in the American magazine Road & Track) that were trying to show what a future Ferrari might look like. Ferrari designs by Pininfarina share a use of the historic Ferrari design legacy like round tail lights and the shape of the front grill opening and the long hood short trunk balance on front engine cars. Curvy body design seems to play better today than sharp angles which don't seem to age as well. Thanks for sharing your design ideas and the great visual presentation of those images!

    Someone of your passion and talent will be valuable contributor to these forums, and im sure you will find Ferrari Chat a knowledgeable and friendly place ( Just stay away from talking about Schumi, Hamilton, Alonso or Massa in the F1 section :)

    Now i know that your designs were purely a fun project, i hold them in even higher regard.

    It was not until someone else said it in the thread that i realized how much your GTO concept reminded me of the De Tomaso Pantera (although your design is not mid engined).

    I love your "lemans" Concept, and i would not be surprised if some of the concepts behind your design have alot in common with what we will see in the next Enzo replacement (Im thinking extreme aero manipulation and open-wheel inspired front wheels).

    @AngrySasha - I sincerely HOPE that you will continue to visit here and post often. You will find that this is a VERY fun board. Learn to take the good with the bad and you will find the good will, inevitably, overwhelm the bad. It is simply fantastic.

    Having said that - I enjoyed looking at your design. I think the top down view is just about perfect. I also love the hood - the three openings are spot on. In my opinion the other part of the front was a bit too aggressive and reminded me of the TVR Speed 12 a bit much. Personally, I agree with the above poster that said put some round headlights on it and that would be perfect as well. I would also love to see that front end turned into a big oval shape with the prancing horse right in the center. When I think GTO I tend to think more round or oval shaped. Same with the taillights - think round or oval.

    Just my .02 FWIW


    Learning more that you did this as a fun project and such makes it even more amazing!!! Thats some spectacular work on this. Extreme KUDOS to you!!! I have to admit some jealousy on my part as I dont have that sort of skill.

    thanks for such a warm welcome, i will defintiely hang around. i have been a ferrari fanatic since my early childhood, in fact, ferrari obsession is what made me decide on my career in car design...

    the design looks very Alfa Stradale influenced from the rear .... would I be safe in saying you took some features from the Stradale ?

    the gto rendering is pretty wicked. it is clearly nicer than anything ferrari has offered in quite some time. i hope ferrari looks at the design and hires sasha to help them build cool cars again. btw, the stradale esqe view from the back is sweet.

    this car was a bit of an experiment...

    it became obvious to me that modern day ferraris (with exceptions) are not at their best in regards to exterior design. confused themes, unrefined detailing and more ofthen than not un atractive proportions is what we have at the moment (just compare a 599 with any of the aston martins for a clear example of that).

    I wanted to do a gto that would be a modern car, something that we all would agree is NOT a retro design but at the same time stay true to some of the cultural and aesthetic themes of its predecessor.

    Most of the innovation in (sports?) car engineering has been made in the 50s-70s of last century. basic layout of a sports car was established then: front engine rear wheel drive (ferrari, jaguar etc), mid engine rear wheel drive (miura, 250LM etc) and rear engine rear wheel drive (porsche). Since then there was no major revolution in sports car architecture...

    yes, of course, new materials have been introduced such as carbon fiber and all kinds of lighweight alloys. My modern day GTO should represent these advances in technology but at the same time stay true to the classic aesthetics and proportions. this is in sharp contrast to other remakes such as the ford gt (a very high quality retro remake but a copy paste of the old car nevertheless), the miura (plain and simple copy paste) the new beetle (a clever retro design but stretched over a platform that is not related to the original, dishonest) etc. my car was supposed to be a modern car first and foremost, with the connection to the original evident only as a second read.


    the car is obviously inspired by lots of different cars... i love classic italian sports cars so i took inspiration from a few: the gto, the swb, the 33 stradale and of course some of the americans like the shelby daytona coupe.

    in reality, the 250 gto is a bit of a DNA donor for both the american design school and the italian design school. one can see clear references to the gto stance, proportions and even themes in a daytona coupe and of course in many muscle cars of the era. ferrari has also played around with american muscle aesthetics with the 365 daytona...

    i think that the modern day gto should have a little bit of the american badass in it, while preserving its high class italian elegance. this would in my opinion be historically adequate.


    hope this text is not too confusing and answers some of the questions...

    p.s. engineering wise, this car is basically an aston martin one77 (wheelbase and windshield touch down) with a longer front overhang and a shorter rear overhang. the occupnat package and cabin dimensions are taken from the current lambo murcielago (just for an ergonomic reference).

    p.p.s. this project was carried out at home, after work... A friend of mine was responsible for the interior design and a professional CAD modeler helped with surfacing and quality. I did most of the modeling on the rough volumes myself and then got pro help to bring quality into the picture. this project was not done for any particular purpose, other than to have a bit of fun outside of work.

    Your train of thought on these points is seriously misjudged. Ferrari's past and present design ethos could not be further from that of an "American badass" (by which i guess your meaning American Muscle Car's).
    American Muscle car's have absolutely no significance in the Europe, and have even less significance with or to Ferrari.

    It's great to see someone with your level of talent posting on this forum. I hope you stick around. I have been designing my versions of cars with pencil and paper as long as I can remember. Your designs are very inspirational and I cannot believe the level of quality. I thought I was looking at a real car in some of the pictures. I hope to see more of your work in the future.

    Oh ya, and to the guy that says that there has never been any American influence in Ferrari design needs to do a little more research. Some Ferraris had fins and been named Americas and Californias. Coincidence? Maybe. LOL.

    I think my original post explains enough about American influence. Ferrari has flirted with American aesthetics before, injecting five percent of it into the gto seemed like a good idea. I just came back from a Cars & coffee gathering in socal, daytona looked very much at home amongst 60s American muscle cars, relatives I would say. Shelby daytona coupe and the gto look like two sisters, one if witch stayed with patents in Italy while the other moved to the usa.
