I think this will happen. The state legislation and incentive program are now in place that kept this from happening a couple of years ago. It appears that the financing is there and the land is there, in fact, have been there for some time now. One could say that the road for F1 has been paved by the Texas Senate.

This is a typically bold and opportunistic Texas-size move. It fits perfectly the times and the economy we live in.

Would seem a sensible choice. Though I have a hard time picturing a conversation between Ecclestone and Panoz being fruitful.

I'm not sure that Austin's 3/8 mile oval at which he promotes is exactly to F1 standards.....

Yes, there isn't an 'old' one.

$300,000,000 cost, no site picked as of yet, and it seems that no one knows where the cash is coming from.......and it's all gonna happen in 2 years! Yup! Done deal!

    The MEXICAN promoter.....

We get concrete from Mexico, we get rebar from mexico, we get labor from Mexico, ......

This would be a GREAT way for a drug cartel to launder about a half a BILLION dollars, if they were looking for a way.....

They could call it "t shirt sales" or something!!!!

He's a citizen by now I am sure, he was born in Mexico City then his parents divorced.
The ONLY part of his background bio that makes any sense at all is apparently his DADDY worked in promtions for F1...

    There's your tie in......

Town Lake is the lake downtown, one of many formed by the meandering Colorado River.....actually I believe it has been named after former First Lady 'Lady Bird' Johnson, at the time of her passing.

THIS is where it gets greasy and sleezy.......

The Evil Midget will find Texans really don't like to be bull sheeitted, and the other thing to remember is "a hand shake is a deal" in this part of the World, and in Houston we have lawyers that make HUGE money on deals that "don't happen"....

If you KNOW what I'm talkin' about!! :D :D :D

You can stop a construction site COLD with the discovery of Native Indian burial remains......LOL!!

If they launch it with a Street Circuit, I could see some level of plausability here, but reading the Press, even the white part of the paper, between the print lines, I cannot see any of that.

Here's what they HAVE NOT done, in comparison to CART's effort in Houston. ( I know, it was only CART, not F1 and all.......

Experienced team in management, Newman/Haas had not only the Track Designer Lance Sheaffer on board early, but pulled people like Peter Kozura in from the Milwaukee Mile to handle race logisitics, set up operations, everything was 'on the ground" from Day 1, from a storefront downtown. While the front office was selling tickets, there was a Boiler Room behind that where engineers, City of Houston, and Centerpoint engineers were meeting daily....

.....and this for a street circuit.

And the phone was working....about ten to twelve Office Operations staff in there, humming like bees.........

We made a mistake on the Pit Out, early on, but got it fixed quickly, to the driver's satisfaction.

Oh yea, one final point. The contract called for five years total on all the upgrade expense $$$ amortization, and CART folded, in four!!!!!

We'll have to order in the Guiness, Harp, Bass Pale Ale, and whatever your "Call liquor" would be, then...

Trophy's Club keeps Bass Plae Ale, but only because they know I'm dropping by!!!

Hill Country limestone is a little harder to cut.....

The east side DOES offer the advantage of loose dirt........

Your comment about Permits is well made, it really takes a lot of support
at the City level to get all that done......

    Maybe the County Fairgrounds property????

That's out on the east side........

Might need a couple of runways added to Bergstrom, too!

Tavo said today that the track will be built within 10 miles of the airport, and that f1 officials were very impressed with Austin
so where would that put the circuit? Any local thoughts?

Well it might be more than smoke and mirrors after all.

I just heard from a reliable source where the location is and that they are building their own airport/FBO and in fact work designing has been underway quite some time and large enough for cargo planes to land. Its been quite hush hush and were only alowed to discuss it after the press conference yesterday that was supposed to be this Saturday but somebody let the cat out of the bag early.

It is within a 10 mile radius of Bergstrom east of Downtown. When I can confirm I'll be more specific.

    Interesting

Well, I'm going 2 for 2 here and forecasting 'won't happen'.

Like the USF1 deal, about which I said at the start to not happen, sounds like there's smoke, but waiting for the fire.

    Just my opinion.....

What BIG secret? That's just the press release that was on the F1 site yesterday reprinted.

Come on guys, this thing will NEVER EVER happen... Bernie also announced that the British GP would move to Donington Park... It was just a ploy to push Silverstone into giving him what he wanted... This is history repeating itself.

It does seem hard to believe that this could be done in less than two years. Maybe in the meantime they could put it downtown. Here is my proposed track. Next, I will be working on how to build locks around the dams and dredging the Colorado River to the Gulf so the mega-yachts can pull in.
