Don Johnson grew up in Wichita and went to KU. I always thought it very cool of him, after years of the Miamigucci duds he sported, that he wore a Jayhawks tee shirt in the final scene.

I LOVED that scene, the view is just amazing. Though it makes me feel kinda sad at the same time, in that it's the end of the show.

Just watched that very episode on TV last night. I didn't watch this show regularly back in the 80s....but I'm hooked now. During last night's episode....I didn't realize it was the very last show till the final 10 minutes. Left me sad. I wished that when the made the Miami Vice movie, that they would have used the original cast - that would have been awesome.

1986 season . Episode starts with someone rolling a body out of a kit Porsche 906 then goes on to a story of a March 85G driver,as the suspected killer .... they use the actual Miami Grand Prix IMSA/Camel GT race as the back drop .A bunch of IMSA drivers of the day are in the episode. I happened upon the show in progress on TV and told my 17 year old son , " Hey check this show out " and then all of the sudden there it is , my Coca~Cola Porsche 962. My kid looks at me like , " how did you do that " ? :)
I had no idea the car was in the show and it was just by shear coincidence I flipped the channel ! Kinda cool . You see my car a few times in the pits and on track. Of course I had to buy the season on DVD !

People used to go to a local bar and restaurant in my town in The SF Bay Area where they would pull the show in 3 hours early from New York on a 10 ft satellite dish. Some people would even dress the part . The show was just HUGE for a period of time.

I was just out of high school in 1985 when it all started, and I'm still hooked watching the DVD set. Still have some similar clothes, and tomorrow I go to inspect a 1989 white TS for the collection :) Just wish it had the single "flying"mirror instead of the duals!

I think some of the 80's style is actually coming back!

Just spent the weekend watching a few more episodes...it would be nice to know what happened to some of the other cool cars on the show, like the white/white Countach, or the white/white Jalpa that Phil Collins drove....wonder if the current owners even know that they were used in the show.

I wondered the same. Other that being local cars, not sure who they belonged to or where they ended up. That white Countach was just stunning.

I am a big fan. Moved to the Miami area in 1980, image was really bad. Two things changed the world's image of Miami, Miami Vice and Ralph Sanchez. Miami today is because of these two entities in the early 1980s.

I had a black steel slope nose Porsche cabriolet. Got a call from the dealer that sold it to me, said that a man named John Nicolella (sp) needed such a car. So I met Mr N. at the Grand Bay in the Grove. He was the producer of MV. Spent an hour with his film crew going over the car with light meters.

Apparently the prez of a savings and loan in Scranton loved MV so much, he hired the ENTIRE crew to film a commercial for the S&L. Mr. N wanted my car.

Met them the next morning at the contempory white house on Key Biscayne often used as the home of various drug dealers in the MV series.

Plot: woman with short red hair, drives up to the house, jumps out leaving the door open, has a dozen red roses in her hands. She goes into the house where a man is sitting at a drafting table doing..........drafting? They kiss, and hand in hand run out the back to a waiting cigarette boat, and speed off into the sunset.

They gave me a copy of the finished commercial. I watched it 15 times, could never figure out what it had to do with S&Ls. But, a great example of why those institutions failed so badly.

After the first day of shooting, I was able to see all the tricks behind MV. They strapped the mounts on my Porsche for the camera to do those reflection scenes. Let me come along. Met Don Johnson and PM Thomas. And most importantly, the two ladies in the show. Food was wonderful. But by the end of the day I was getting bored.

Then they hit me with the "we need the car another day, leave it here, here are keys to a rental". Oh sure. They said if the car was not here the next day, they would lose a days shooting worth over $400 grand.

They ended up putting me up at the Grand Bay, bought a change of clothes, toiletries, meals, and hired an armed guard to stand by the car all night as it sat in front of the hotel.

I will never forget this memory. This show was incredible. Sadly, the movie four years ago was a complete disaster, wrong actors, bad script. Sucked.

No one could come close to Don Johnson and PM Thomas in their roles.

That is my MV story. Thanks for the thread.

See that yellow fender in one of the TR photos? Preston was offered over $35 mill for that car and said no.
