Inspired by photos of recent 612 OTO's in white, I built Revell's kit with a black roof to emulate the appearance without actually making a clear roof panel. I customized the fascia with 599 GTO-inspired grilles. Oddly Revell chrome plates the headlight buckets and engine surround; I stripped the engine surround and painted it properly but I liked the look of the plated headlight buckets vs. the "ghost-eyed" appearance of white 612's with white headlight buckets. I used Scale Production 20" Challenge wheels, a great addition to the Revell kit. I love how the model came out, but it sure was a lousy kit to do final assembly. My next models will be the Hasegawa "Lucybelle" Testa Rossa and Fujimi's 458 Italia.

That's very nicely done! I was also confused by the chroming on this kit when I did it, and had trouble fitting the body to the base. The wheel's look very cool for this!

It turned out really well. I like the wheels. Revell did alot better on the California, although the Revell 612 has alot of detail.

Got this kit Monday; finished it late Wed. night. Fun to build a new kit like a kid again.

Long story short..it's a good looking model of this gorgeous new Ferrari. Too bad Fujimi really dropped the ball on this one, some of the kit details are over-simplified and there are quality issues like sink marks in various places. This kit is nowhere near as nice as their Scuderia, for example. If you like being an early-adopter and love the Italia, this kit is adequate. I have much higher hopes for Revell's forthcoming full-detail kit, and perhaps for later variants by Fujimi that might be better detailed and not as rushed.

More pictures, including the basic kit parts, here:

Those penta wheels look killer! Model looks great...wonder if anyone's going to build them in monochrome colors?

Time to revive the thread! I'll post some pics of my SuperAmerica when I get off work. I finished the red coat of the body, and it turned out nice. Hope you guys are still building! :D

The first 2 are a '68 Charger from Bullitt. A co-worker got the kit from his kids years ago, but could never put it together. He's almost a 40 year veteran on our Police force, so it was an honor to build it for him. The body is metal and was already done (factory), but I managed to polish it out to a better finish.

The 2nd set is my current WIP, a Ferrari SuperAmerica, which I received as a gift from my dad recently. So far, I've only done the red coats. Still need to decal and do clear.

    Those look great!

I had lost my 'mojo' recently, it has been very hot here (for a change) and ive just not felt like I had the energy to do any modelling when I get home from work. Funnily enough I just picked up a model for the first time in a couple of months yesterday and will post some updates soon.

Thanks. :) Hope you get back into the swing of it. I took a little time off after getting burned out a little. After browsing automotiveforums for a while, I got the kick again. :)

I didn't realize you were building that to match the actual car! They look great together!

Trax: thanks for sharing the pics, looks nice!
