My manual says plate thickness should be 8.3 new. with 1.5 wear limit. A new one has come that is 9.3. anyone got the right measurement and know if spec has been changed?

Found it, all changed in 99 with new spec clutch, a thicker plate with a bit more wear in it and slightly wider. Its meant to be 8.9 +- 0.3 new.

Just check which you have when you just replace the plate.

Curious. Where were you able to buy just a clutch plate? I've been looking around and I seems you can oy get them in a complete 'clutch kit'

Dont know outside UK. here you could try http://www.superformance.co.uk/a-355/clutch.htm
They do an italian one - whatever that means. I can now do you a refurb one, Precisely to spec, just fitted and tried one, its great. Using the best material from valeo, who make the original, bonded and riveted so bullet proof as well. But would need yours in exchange.

We have also sorted out refurbishing the whole unit. again spot on spec, now I know what it is meant to be. a very flat plate and springs all tested and in perfect order and height. For a lot less than sf.

over spec it will not release. But you can take it to a clutch shop and they can grind the plate down to the spec.. Also is that spec open or compressed? street plates run a marcel spring so there are two specs.
