Made my 1st fill up of enthanol free fuel at a Cenex station less than 5 miles from my home. I expect to runn through a couple of tanks before I purge the system of all left over ethanol.

Has anyone else taken the cure and have you expierenced any changes in operation, less power, less mpg, any changes noticed what so ever?

I have a trip planned later this summer to Eastern Washington with the 400i and have now planned my fuel stops via non ethanol fuel providers. I will lay my Ferrari's and Candy's Maserati up this winter with full tanks of enthanol free fuel.

It is a lot more likely that you will have more MPG and maybe a tad more power. Ethanol, while it does have a high octane rating (113) carries its own oxygen, and therefore cannot be carrying as much energy per unit weight (as std gasoline fractions).

What kind of car? 308? Please tell us what your findings are. My bet is that you won't see a difference.

    No!

I posted fuel maps in the Texas forum months ago. The EPA determines your fuels.

Having just finished the total restoration of our 308gtsi and spending hours replacing every rubber hose from front to back, I really did not look forward to having the enthanol cause me to do it all over. So being ethanol free is very comforting.

One sad note now that the car is totaly finished , bare metal strip and finish, plus a total mehcnaical restoration, now my left and right fuel tanks are dripping fuel from the bottoms. I will now have to drop some suspention and remove the tanks for repair. Not sure what I will do yet, but considering cutting the bottoms out and welding in new ones, a bit drastic but I have no idea how thin the bottoms are or where the next pin hole will be.

You can most likely attribute the tank corrosion to ethanol also. Wish I could get rid of the stuff in our Ferrari.

What about the quality of fuel? The ethanol free gas comes from a few companies I have never heard of. I have always used shell, I wonder if switching will do more harm then good.

That is the biggest aspect imho but how is one to know without a unbiased test from the manufacturers? When I had my MR2T/T66 and SC300/2JZGTE/T78 I would use Toulene as a cleaner/octane booster, about 1gal every 500 miles.

They're excited about E10 because they will make more money and screw us over. Who else will hoard hundreds of gallons of no-ethanol gas on December 31, 2010?

Also, kinda off-topic but what do people think of gas on the indian reservations? Does it contain ethanol? If not, do they use twigs as filler like old soviet gasoline? :)

This is a good point-- weren't we all talking about "top tier" fuels a while back? What sort of additive package do these guys have?

Not only does ethanol create problems for most older fuel systems, it reduces gas mileage for all cars and, because it costs more to produce it than the market price of gasoline it replaces. It also is more expensive to produce than the market price of ethanol, and its producers have to rely on Federal subsidies paid by we taxpayers to incentive them to produce the stuff.

There is no question I get better mileage without the ethanol. Just filled up at VIR. I get 22 mpg or so with E10, and 24 with the good stuff (Audi RS4). That is significant, nearly 10% better, essentially negating the gas consumption savings but cutting it with E.

SMS was kind enough to post this link 3 days ago under the "15% ethanol--Ok or not?" thread in this section, check your state...

    http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp

The key phrase here is 'at this time', they do have ethanol in fuels from Nov. to Apr..
Sounds like next year will be the beginning of 'all year' additive.
