Just had my U.S. 1976 fiberglass 308GTB weighed by order of the DMV. No spare, no tools, no A/C compressor, full fuel, 16" wheels. 1220 front 1660 rear 2880 total
Kick a$$. ty spare 42lbs tools 15lbs a/c comp 27lbs so about 2964lbs with all the 'stuff' 80lbs off of a steel car. definitely noticeable
On the scale, sure. You are saying that you can "feel" 80 lbs of weight delta driving a car that weighs a ton-and-a-half? Michael S. may not even be able to notice such minutia....
looks like the US fiberglass GTB weighs in at more than my euro steel 308 GTS at 2850 total with all tools and spare and a/c. -hmmmm
I think the main advantage of the fiberglass car is NO RUST on the body panels, weight is less of an issue.
That would make sense....there's no savings in body panel weight, and we pick up the real steel bumpers, and there you are!!!
US carb car 'extra' crap list and weights: air injection emissions system: 28lbs US bumpers to Euro 82lbs difference fuel evaporative system: 5lbs add'l front bracing (minor) 2lbs (if that, it's only 2 small sh. steel welds) add'l rear bracing (more crud) 10lbs (some steel bar bracing) all of my head beating, research, and scouring can only find 127lbs difference other than the super-heavy thermal muffler which everyone has already dumped anyway. my steel carb GTB ride has all the US crap removed except for the bracing and weighs 2964lbs with almost 1/2 tank, spare, tools, a/c.
