Ok 74045 but do you know when Michelotto converted the car to F40LM spec? The F40 pictured had been recently restored as you see it in the photographs. It seemed to be a bit of a rush job; I saw some red paint still between the treads on the rear tires! I recall this as 1994 when it was here. Wouldn't the LM spec version have been before that date? Note there was no outside mirror on the passenger side. The Cavallino cover picture you posted of 73015 has no mirror on either side... CH
How many are still in road car form? Was there only one converted to LM Spec? The factory owns on (Galleria car?) and i remember another one was offered for sale a few years ago.
It first appeared as an LM at the 1995 Le Mans. Enough time for Michelotto to do the conversion, I think. But, who really knows?
I did ask about the serial number a few years ago but the only number that could be retrieved was for a different production version F40 *88583* that came through. It was sold in June of 2004. I asked before but have you heard anything since about where 73015 may be now. That probably isn't the galleria F40 someone mentioned? CH
Another prototype topic of sorts that has received little attention> There were limited F40s made called the F40 Lemans Ecologico which were with street legal exhaust systems but combined with a race ready chassis. Anything more learned about those versions? CH
Car was made into a LM in May 1992. Then a few years later changed to a GTE. So the pics you took must have been prior to that. "74045 May 1992. Rebuilt from one of Ferrari's F40 prototypes. Also, if the car he speaks of was sold in June of 2004 as a standard F40 then that's proof it definitely wasn't 74045! By the way I don't trust those records one bit, and although 74045 likely went to Rene Herzog in 1992 or so, I don't think it was built into an LM in 1992 and then sat around for 3 seasons before entering competition in 1995.
The info is from QV500, which is pretty respected. Are you saying the car was raced sooner, or they have the build date wrong? From what I have heard their build dates are spot on for all 19 LM's. I mean most LM's were just bought up and never raced. I think, what 3 were actually raced?
The exact build dates of the LMs are a bit murky and there is some guesswork there. No I'm not saying 74045 was raced prior to the 95 Le Mans. Anyway, here is 74045 in duct-taped' 1995 Le Mans LM guise left, and 2009 GTE guise on the right. An F40 prototype with many miles under its belt. The center bolts on all the prototypes started off black (anodized?) and none of them had the stone shields placed in the fender gaps. Image Unavailable, Please Login
73015 was tested extensively and I fear it may have been sacrificed against an immovable stationary base in the interests of safety. Can anyone confirm this? Image Unavailable, Please Login

Joe do you have the factory assembly line picture from a French magazine (Sport Auto?) in 1987? It shows several of the F40 prototype 5 vent rear clips stacked up near the line prior to installation on the car. CH
Id have to go deep into the archives to find that one, and I'm not even sure I have it. Can you scan & post it please?
