...So, on my way to work I had the ridiculous idea of taking a Novitec Scuderia engine and finding an engineer psychotic enough to jam it into a Caterham R500 Superlight...

Then I remembered it would kill me, and I had the thought of transferring Ferrari's F1Trac to the Caterham. Is this possible? There has to be somebody who is a master with automotive computers and an engineering team able to pull it off. Seeing as Ferrari use it on different models, I don't see why I couldn't have it on my death-sled.

    Thoughts?

Leonard- No problem. Just buy a Ferrari transaxle with E-Diff, two Motronic ECUs with the proper software, the Bosch ABS system fitted to the Scud, and the sensors (yaw, acceleration, etc) that came with the Scud and install on your car. Not a big deal except your car does not have a transaxle. Can probably be done if you have a fairly big budget.

Just kidding, but it would be a fairly involved undertaking.

You can buy generic TC systems that aren't as advanced as what you'd find on the Ferrari, but it would work. It's beyond impractical to try & make the system work on another car. These systems are tuned for the characteristics of the vehicle they're intended for, and they tend to be surprisingly tied in with lots of other vehicle systems.

Its s theoretical undertaking for sure and one that would undoubtedly take generous finances however from what i gather, what your saying is that it should be possible? The idea is split between the caterham and the ultima gtr. The caterham is a much more raw experience from what i gather, as if the ultima could ever be consisted tame.

    You don't want to try.
I'm sure it could be done with a pot of gold, but it would likely need to be a big pot. And it still wouldn't work that well.

Why are you so attached to the F1 Trac system? Because it's so smart? All of those smarts are tuned for the vehicle it's designed for. Physical characteristics of the car are key to making this kind of thing work. With the wrong gearbox ratios, driveline inertia, brake hardware, wheelbase, track width & steering ratio (just for starters) you'll have a bucket of electronic brains that won't provide the experience you're looking for. I didn't even understand which engine your current brainstorm centered on.

I can't advise you strongly enough to stop expending brainpower on this. You could get to some shop that was either unscrupulous, or naive enough to try bolting all the parts together and you'd quickly spend enough to buy another 360 just trying to make it work. And at best you'd end up with a giant kludge of parts & adapters and gizmos designed to fool the system and it wouldn't ever have the performance it did in the car it was designed for.
