In reviewing an F355 that I may be interested in purchasing, I noticed a few things that I would like opinions on. I have posted the pics. 1. Seems to be a trim piece missing from the rear bumper - this doesn't seem like a big deal. Can someone confirm and let me know what and how much this piece is worth as well as availability. Also why would it be missing? 2. I believe an amp is mounted in the trunk. There is a Sony head unit but no other evidence of subs. 3. Do all GTB cars have 3 compartments behind the seats 4. It says the car (pics of papers) had 30K service 2K miles ago. They do not know how long ago but a good guess is 1-2 years. I will try to contact the previous owner if I continue. Please confirm that a belt change is needed every 5 yrs regardless of miles. Also, can anyone confirm from the papers if this was done by a Ferrari dealer. Comments are much appreciated. Bumper looks all there just like mine anyway, the is only one storage behind the seat that is the one in the middle the covers directly behind the seats are covers for the ECUs one under each cover
Also did Ferrari change or vary the headlight surround color from red to black? I have a magazine article from 1995 that has red surrounds but in the attached photo they are black. It has tan seats and dash but black carpet. I assume this is easily an option. Can any confirm this. The carpet color shows in the behind seat pic. It is solid black with no stripes. The carfax (for what it's worth) is clean but I'm concerned that the car has been painted. the interior is in great shape. Thank you. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The rear bumper looks fine, I'm guessing that the area you think the part is missing from is the horizontal strip above the exhausts but below the licence plate, nothing fits in there although on my car this inset area is painted in satin black (red car) you are quite correct with regards the amp under the hood, an old Rockford Fosgate, this is probably running the front speakers unless the previous owner has removed the sub and left the amp. I like the look of the black carpet, nice option. The headlight surrounds on my car are body coloured, not black, kind of like the look though although you would never notice in the dark lol
My 1999 F355 came with that exact same Rockford Punch amp; it was powering Boss Audio separates in the factory locations. I replaced everything with high-end gear and even with the top down it sounds amazing!
I think the area mentioned was satin black on all cars so it would indicate the rear bumper (and perhaps much more) was repainted (and without a lot of attention to detail). The tail pipes seem to be hanging a bit low too but that could just be sloppy alignment or maybe it's an aftermarket muffler.
I am fairly certain the headlight surrounds should be 'car color' and that strip under the license plate with the slotted holes should be painted satin black.
Another possibility is the car was Black repainted red. Make sure you check records indicating original color.
agree with rest, but my comment was re the service sheet. who on earth does a sheet like that which doesn't show the date and the dealer? that does seen weird. car looks nice, tricky to get one without some paint if its been used. but light surrounds could indicate more major repair if those needed replacement.
Thank you for the comments. This confirms my suspision that there has been paint work. Most notably I the headlight surrounds could mean a major colision. Is there a link to determine the original car features wit the VIN?
Check your engine deck lid. That is were I believe most of the 355s had their paint color code sticker. If it's not there that could also be an indicator of a repaint.
They may have just re-painted the headlight surrounds for a different "look." It they were trying to hide the fact that the car was repainted I suspect they would have painted the surrounds body color. The car may or may not have been in an accident but I wouldn't read too much into the headlight surround color. It is an interesting look, in a way. Different. I think I kind of like it! It puts a 'face" on the car.
The VIN is ZFFXR41A0V0108677. It is not listed on 355registry. Is there another source for looking up the VIN to determine the exterior/interior colors?
I agree with XSV348, who produes a service sheet with no info on it, I didn't see a name, date, VIN #. I would strongly question the validity of that documentation! How would one know its for that car?
From the picture you can see over sprayed Red paint under the hood both sides around the headlights, very obvious this 355 had been repainted in past
I wish I could get all that work done for 4500.00. I ahve had 2 majors on my 355 and both were nearly twice that.
Are you talking about the leading edge of the hood (under side) or the flanges that are red runing fore/aft? Either way the leading edge does look like some red paint is there.
Yes, this is true, see pic Service sheet is clearly fabricated. Copy of a copy and the marque's emblems don't line-up. Yes, should be black. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very true!!! IF that paper is actually from a dealer, it looks more like a price quote than a final invoice. Again IF the dealer info is on the sheet, it would be worth a phone call to see if that is a valid receipt. Good Hunting!!!
check this site out for info on slotted bumper & see how it is painted black http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=227164&highlight=bumper+slots+355
