My father died last year from pancreatic cancer. It's a terrible disease. If you friend goes into remission and finds himself in NY, my 360 spider is available.
Joe- I'm in. Sorry didn't know the fellow was down in Baltimore. Let's all chat in the morning and work towards a trip next weekend. Hopefully that would be good for all concerned.
Hello Jason After reading your post, I contacted Mark McElrath from the American Cancer Society in Baltimore. I've worked with Mark at an ACS fund raiser and thought it might be worth the shot. Here is Mark's reply to my email - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi David, My contact that I mentioned talked with the gentleman, Jason, who made the posting. My contact has some Ferrari connections and is advancing opportunities. We'll cross our fingers that something comes out of it as it would be wonderful to help fulfill that wish. How did you like the real estate golf event at Hayfields? Thank you for participating with Rick and his team! We look forward to making that a great annual event. Please let me know if you have spoken to Mark and keep us posted. Dave
This would be great if some Ferrari event could happen for your friend because of the drastic, and unfortunate event he has had in his life. I don't own a Ferrari, but if I were to catch a disease and the chances of survival were slim to none the last thing I would want to do is ride in a Ferrari. I get excited just standing near a Ferrari, but I know if I were to ride in a Ferrari before knowing i could die any day I would be able to die peacefully. I pray for your friend, and hope he spends the rest of his living days happily. I'm not saying I expect him to die soon. I pray and hope your friend is part of the 5% of surviving such a fatal cancer. No one should die and at such a young age, and I hope your friend gets to live to a ripe old age, and hopefully one day have the joy of owning a F-Car. - Julian Sutton
sorry to here about your friend Jason. I've had cancer, its bastard of an illness. I live in fear of it taking me out and I'm only 51. regards Rob Bailey /Australia,
Bump...didn't want this to fall off the radar. I ~believe~ Joe Zaff is the point on this? If not I can take it and try to work something out for the group up here.
I was going to try to be, but it looks like Dave Fizer is going to be able to set something up for him. From the email it appears his contact with Ferrari connections has already contacted the OP to set something up.
I want to thank everyone again for all that you've done...it's been amazing! I've had dialog with a few different owners from this board and 6speedonline.com and we are shooting for this Saturday, the 19th at around 9:30 am. So far, I've talked to owners of 2 430's, Lambo Murci, and 911 turbo with a lot of work done to it. I know a few of you in this thread with 355's (always loved the 355) were willing to come too and that would be great (the more the merrier)! If this sounds good to any of you who are still interested....you can let me know in here or shoot me a PM. I know I sound like a broken record but you guys are great! My friend Mark is going to be so blown away by this and I can't wait to brighten a couple hours of his horrible life. It means the world to me....thank you again! Jason
Jason, Just let me know the final details and I'll be there at 9:30! Looking forward to helping have a good day! -Omar
Traveling a lot for work and very busy otherwise but would be happy to bring the TR up for this event. Waiting for details. CC
Call me tomorrow. 703-403-8600 I move 360's and 430's often and am taking one back up to Baltimore later this week or this weekend for a client. If you contact me I will get in touch with him and if you can make it down to his house near the inner harbor, I am fairly confident he would take your friend for a ride. FWIW, I can drive up to Baltimore in my 308QV if he wants a ride in that too, but it can't touch the 430 LOL! MB
What a touching story. It's a true testament to the quality people in this area that you are all organizing this.
Hello Jason Sounds like you have a number of options for your friend. Please let me know if Mark from ACS has contacted you again or I should reach out to him again. Thanks Dave
^^Hey Dave, I didn't actually speak to Mark but I did speak to Jeff Clark and I think Mark referred Jeff to me. I haven't heard back from Jeff but he was a really nice guy and I'm sure he's been doing everything he can. I do want to iron out all of the details with those who are still interested. I've spoken to two 430, Murci, and 911 turbo owners that have confirmed their attendance on Saturday morning. We are shooting for 9:30 am and I'd like to meet everyone downtown next to the stadiums before heading to the hospice. My goal is to have Mark already out back in the parking lot while the caravan of cars pull in. I'm trying very hard to stick to this time table because his energy levels can come and go and want to catch him in the morning when he seems to be at his best. Here are the directions for where I think will be the easiest and most convenient place to meet: -Take the downtown exit off 95 (north or south) and that puts you onto 395. -Once on 395, you'll see Ravens stadium on your left and an exit for Martin Luther King (MLK) Blvd on your right....take that exit. -Once you take the MLK exit....you'll see another exit on your right for Russell Street...take that exit. -Once you take the Russell Street exit...you'll end in the middle of both the Ravens and Orioles stadiums. Make a right at that light. -Making a right pulls you into the Orioles parking lot next to the Warehouse and parallel to 395 to which you came in on and I will be there in a white Range Rover Sport. Again, my number is 410.365.2767 and the name of the hospice is Joseph Richey Hospice. I am praying that this day turns out just as I see it in my head and I'm sure with the help of all you cool ass dudes on here....it will! If you have any questions, get lost, or whatever....PLEASE call me! I look forward to meeting whoever decides to come out! Thanks again, Jason
Sounds like you're a great friend Jason. I hope everything worked out and your buddy enjoyed himself. If you took any pics feel free to post some.
It was a great outing and Jason I have to say what you did for your friend is inspiring. I'm glad I was able to bring a little happiness to Mark, it looked like he had a good time and that grin he had as we flew by him in the lambo was priceless Post some pics if you get a free moment. Thanks and let me know if there is anything else I can do.
I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes...it is much appreciated! You know how sometimes when you plan or have an idea for something and you see in your head how you'd like for it to play out in real life? Well, Saturday was one of those days for me and with help of such great people like 'g4titan', 'CurtisC63', a couple guys from 6peedonline.com, and another guy from this site....it played out exactly as I had hoped! We had two beautiful 430's, the Ferrari I first fell in love with--the Testerrosa, a Lambo Murci, and a 911 turbo and my buddy Mark was as surprised and blown away as I thought he would be. After taking a little time for him to take it all in and get some pictures with each of the cars....he (as I expected) asked for a ride in the Murci. So, we all jumped in and took a ride together and it was great! The disease and the medication are really starting to take a toll on him and it was hard for him to express himself like I know he wanted to but when he looked me in my eyes and tried to get his words together so to ask me how this all came together....I knew that he was truly amazed by the whole thing. Mark and I would always talk about him in a Lambo and me in a Ferrari running down I-83 (the highway we went on Saturday) one day and him being the perpetual optimist that he always has been....he was right. We did it and its a day I'll never forget. As soon as I get all the pictures emailed to me...I'll post them. Thank you again, Jason
Hey guys I got a call from Jason and Mark passed away on Wednesday of this week. I'm glad we were able to give him one last adventure before he moved on to a better place. Salute and farewell Mark
Here is the story that ran in The Baltimore Sun.... http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/bs-md-ob-mark-baltimore-dies-20100625,0,652837.story
Sorry to hear of his passing. I am really glad you guys were able to share your time with Mark. Lip service is one thing, but "doing" is a whole different thing. Thats what I love about you guys, always willing to try and put others above status or things. Had a bad call at work this week, life is short and precious, don't waste it.
My eyes welled up when I got to the end of this thread, you guys did the coolest thing I can imagine. ... And I complained about my job today, for cryin' out loud. I've been blessed with 6 more years than this man, We're all on borrowed time, Art
