    I don't know, but why is it that SWBs have heat shields only on the left side exhaust tips?

    To prevent fuel being spilled on the exhaust. The filler is on the left rear fender. I think this is a race mod designed to forgive the sloppiness of hasty pit stop fill ups.

    Because the gas cap is on the left side. The purpose of the shield is to minimize spilt fuel igniting on a hot exhaust tip. No filler on the right side, no shield on the right-side. Symmetry was not a priority in order to save weight.
