A few years ago, there was some interest, and those involved had a lot of fun. Even if you don't stay for the show (Which is one of the most fun shows of the year... and sometimes better than Meadowbrook).

If there is interest, we will be leaving no later than 7:00 am to head down to the Edsel Ford Estate in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI.

Post if your interested, and what car you intend on bringing... and I'll pm those involved the details

It is a fun and very eclectic show. I had a great time and an honor last year displaying my car and talking to so many other owners of interesting machines. One guy bought a clapped out Porsche 904/906 with both engines for a very modest price as an obsolete race car in the late 1960s and spent many years restoring it. It is worth a lot today.

Did you ever see a DKW convertible with two stroke engine? There were lots of other similarly rare machines. Go if you can. We might be able to join the group.

Yes, indeed that was the car. The owner said he had sold a then-contemporary 911 he owned and added some cash to be able to buy the car with both engines. He said it was really clapped out, but all there. He had to fix some cracks in the frame, numerous "divots" in the body that had been repaired to a "let's get it ready for the race next week" quality, and other issues. The car had history for a good performance in something like an 86 hour enduro at the Nurburgring and many other races.

It is a fascinating bit of Porsche racing history.

    Regards,

    Jim Walker

As it turns out, Alex worked with my friend Jim (who was the first classic car collector's grandson) to try and create an automotive museum in Detroit with 50 + cars donated by Barney Pollard back in the early 80's. My great grandfather, and Pollard were quite good friends, and met at Packard in the early days of the original Liberty engine! This town is small indeed :)

Perhaps, though I'm doing something on the 19th that ends kind of late at night. Might make it. Shoot me the details of where you are leaving from and where it ends up (never been there.)

I won't be able to roll out with your gentlemen, but I'll certainly be there (prepped a couple of cars and showing one). Looking forward to this event as it is my first time attending.

    WHAT!!!???

I went to the "Eye's On Design" show last year and it wasn't ANYTHING like the pictures posted above.

Are there going to be cars like the Jaguar XJ220 and Ferrari Enzo there?

I'm going no matter what, but holy hell, if it is like that, I will be in heaven.

Those photos are from 2007. One of the cars pictured is returning. I know the owner of the XJ220 no longer has it, but what a car!

I only wish Roger Penske would support the Michigan shows with his own cars... It would really continue with having a great diversity there. I'm told he purposely doesn't participate :(

Last year, there were some cool cars. I went down in a ZR1, the year before in the Bugatti, and in 2007 in the Enzo. This year... well, we will see ;) I may opt to do something like what I did for Meadowbrook last year... and have "no fun at all" with stupendous results!

Do you guys know if there will be a good number of exotics this year? Last year there were very few - The Audi R8 V10, Ferrari 365 2+2, Bertone Stratos Zero replica....that's all I can think of. It was a a cool show, but NOTHING like it was a few years back.

There is another show going on the same day that is for 2 seater cars only, so there will be Ferraris and such. I may end up at that one instead.

Anyone know what exotics will be at Eyes on Design next week?

I don't have a list of cars. It is one of the premier car shows in the country, with a wide variety. Jalopy's, Muscle, 50's, sports cars, imports, concept cars, race cars. I can think of no place I'd rather be on Fathers day.

I do know about 7 cars that will be there, one of them being a GTO.

The "theme" of this year's show is : The Evolution of an Automobile Design.
If you are interested in automotive design, and cool cars in general, this is the show to see,as Isaac said.

I was at Autozone this morning and spoke to Kip (owner of the 246 Dino) and he said his car will be in the show, along with a few other Ferrari's.

    Hi,

Is it possible to buy tickets at the entrance or you need to purchase them online in advance?

    Thanks.

Yes, most people buy them at the gate. You park across the street in a field. It is a little uneven, so you may not want to bring a 250LM if you have it. :)
