Any recommendations for samoyed puppies on the west coast. We plan on giving it the best possible home, vet on the speed-dial etc. No puppy mills, scams, crazy contracts, sick dogs, heartbreaks, dissapointments on and on......

We've been doing some looking for a family pet, and have come across a barrage of just pure s!@#. Incredible

    Thanks

Sams are awesome dogs, our families have always had them. No better breed to have around children.
Best wishes with your exciting venture!

Very true, but Sams are great dogs too. There are lots of great resources online--look for reputable breeders by contacting the AKC, Samoyed enthusiast/rescue groups, Google searches, things like that. What I've found is the reputable breeders will begin to set themselves apart. Obviously you're going to want a breeder that has extensive health histories and guarantees for its pups and will "interview" you as well. Ultimately, your choice may come down to which breeder has a litter at the right time. Have fun with the process and let us know when you've picked one out.

I really want one, too! I love them. They're SO cute and lovable. I just have to be careful b/c a lot of apartment complexes probably wouldn't allow me to have it and that could be a problem when I move.

Yeah but a loyal companion is worth the deposit, even if it's non-refundable. I wouldn't give up Lady, my black Lab, for anything. I met a customer with a Samoyed. She said when her husband comes home from work, the dog will sit there and "talk" to him for 5 minutes. Awww...

Well, a lot of pet policies clearly state NO (even with a deposit) Akitas or Huskies and I'm not sure, but I have a feeling they might classify a Samoyed as a similar breed, unfortunately.

My cat talks to me when I get home, too! It's pretty funny. :)

I know a lot of properties have relaxed their pet policies in the down economy, but it's good that you think ahead like that. I wish more people were that responsible!

We've had 3 and all of them were insatiable barkers. No problem where we live, but it could be an issue in a neighborhood. They were very lovable dogs. Don't forget the shedding...Never have I seen so much hair come from one animal. My wife has rugs woven from Sammy hair collected during shedding.
