There are going to be some very disappointed owners out there when they discover they don't own the historic cars they thought they did. :(

I am curious which 5 cars are associated with these brothers. If not the SN for privacy reasons, just the model/types.

I googled "Dubbini Ferrari" and you get some pretty big cars right off the bat... Doesn't mean those are affected chassis, but definitely gives one pause...

I suppose that these are Giulio's kids, which is sad if true, as (so far as I know) Giulio was a well-known and respected enthusiast/collector. All though I never met him, he ended up with one of my "children", 0716TR, and made a proper car out of it. I hope that someone who knows the family will chime in here.

I knew the old man tangentially in the 1970's and a lot of cars / parts were in their hands. I think that 5 is just the tip of the iceberg.

I wonder how long this went on. The magnitude of it sounds Brocket-like, although the MO is different.

Partly the result of the tolerance for and acceptance of fakes in the classic car community.

Reading the official statements on local newspapers online, the Dubbini brothers declare that these five discussed cars, come "as are" from the father's legacy, so aren't the illegal result of their work made with that group of specialists, as denounced by the "factory" .
So that, it seems to understand, the father Giulio would be the author of these fakes.

    Ciao

One of Dubbini's cars in the late 80's.
#1999GT was destroyed during practice at Le Mans in 1960. The car was reconstructed and again destroyed before the Tour de France start the same year.
The question is, what is left from the original.

    Not good. :(

Are there any indications that cars purchased by FChatters are involved?

    All the best,

I fail to see how the acceptance of replica, that is cars that were accurately reproduced utilizing a majority of parts from a Ferrari of similar vintage and possessing the proper chassis and engine, leads to fraud via the re-stamping of chassis numbers. Even without the reproduction of another model, such fraud can be committed by re-stamping one "run-of-the-mill" car with the chassis number of another historically important car.

Just my two cents and all that...

    Early Days.

The Internet has changed things a lot. Information that was locked away comes out.

I think the important thing is disclousure and discussion.

Buyer's should always do their homework and do it VERY carefully.

Does it really surprise anyone that this is happening? The fine art market has been the target of forgers for years. Apparently, there are a lot of fakes hanging in museums. The prices vintage Ferraris are selling for makes this market ripe for the forger to tap.

    I agree.
But, to create a fake for a buyer that has the awareness of his deal, it is a matter.
Selling a fake certified as genuine, it is another matter.
