I recently purchased "new-old-stock" 355 Challenge wheels for my 348 from a local wheel shop, the last set they had. They are white with the Speedline logo on one of the spokes.

The specs on the wheels are:

    Front: 18" x 8" ET49
    Rear: 18" x 10" ET68

The Speedline labels on the boxes describe them as 355 wheels, and stickers on the interior of the wheels say For Competition Use Only.

Interestingly, these offsets are identical to the stock 348 17" wheel offsets, and are also contradictory to the offset data of 355 Challenge wheels that have been mentioned on this forum.

Given that these wheels are stock offsets, but are wider, what would be a good front/rear combination of spacers to use if I were to go for a combinations of good looks and performance?

    15mm front/0mm rear?
    15mm front/15mm rear?
    15mm front/20mm rear?
    15mm front/25mm rear?

Those are the offsets for the '92 and earlier cars -- these are the cars that may people fit with a 25mm spacer on the rear wheels. '93 on (spiders and speciales) used a rear wheel with an offset of 43 mm, and typically are not fitted with spacers. These wheels without spacers are equivalent to the earlier wheels with the 25mm spacer.

So I think the answer is to use a 25mm spacer in the rear, and no spacer in the front.

Since these rear wheels are 10" wide but with stock offset, I guess 25mm spacers like the '93 onward cars would be too much?

    Hi Guys,

I'm in a dilemna. I have these brand new 355 Challenge wheels, in white, still in their Speedline boxes, unused, unmounted.

I have been thinking about it and I don't think I can pull off white wheels on my 348. And, I don't think I can bear to paint over these brand spanking new wheels in silver. It would be such a waste.

If I could just ask if any of you are interested in them, I would be willing to part with them. They would be priced at US$4,700 if anyone is interested. Only problem I foresee is that, A) shipping from Singapore to the States is costly and the buyer would have to pay this, and B) the buyer would also have to pay the Bank Transfer charges to a Singapore bank.

On point (A), I guess if someone is resourceful, they could arrange for a freight forawrding company to receive it over here. But these wheels are brand new, so it really depends on how badly some one wants them to consider the shipping cost.

Then again, if no one is interested, I guess it would be a moot discussion. Anyway, just thought I'd share.

My 348 race car has 355 challenge wheels and they look great. I need to use these wheels as my car has really big brakes. I have 2 sets of 355 Challenge wheels but they are pretty tired from racing. I read somewhere in Fchat that the Speedlines have a life expectancy - does anyone know if that is true?

Shipping to HK not too expensive and bank charges are chump change (any private banking client probably does not pay). I will look into it

How expensive are the wheels new? Where did you buy them from?

Got them new from a friend's workshop. I think they are about 2,500 Sterling Pounds new from the UK at the moment, if they can be found - I am not sure about the availability now.

    Lower unsprung weight ?
    Make the wheels look bigger?
Less dust because of smaller brake pads?

Easier, for the every day use, not racing use, the original one are safer, the racing are made with carbon component and you know that this kind of breaks need some "hot" before use, and in a normal street or highway it's a little bit difficult to get the right brake temperature.
For the same reason, I replaced the racing bucktes for the original one. During a long travel, wifes..usually get more angry..... but the rest of the car stills 100% pure racing.

I will put more pictures from the car.

    Regards.

Look forward to some more pictures,
BTW 355C brakes aren't carbon, and depending on the pads, work great on the street.

I will try, next time that I have to change pads, I will change everything again. Pads and brake discs are completly new, 1500kms, and It works better for the street that the racing set. I will try with other pads.

    Thanks.
