Seriously, what do you all think the bottom will be before the upswing (or will there be one)?
Gallardos at 50k, 35k? I'm not trying to get one cheap ;) but it happens to 99% of cars eventually.
And in another ten years, if the technology in the cars holds up, they should start to swing back up as all the deferred maintenance and crashes/thefts/impounds takes cars out of inventory...? or 5, or 20 years

the only "problem" I can see is with the dealer. He didn't want to have to pay the commission to the credit card company for the use of the card/transaction. Other than that, whats the problem? I take credit cards for $10,000 - 20K jobs all the time. People want the cash back or the miles. All they had to do is verify who the guy was and call the credit card companies. For all they know the guy may have intended to pay off the car when the first cc statements arrived.

FWIW, I bought a gallardo '05 about a year ago for exactly $100,000. Had 18000-some miles. I've put on 4000. Not a single problem with it, except the left window doesn't always roll up completely when I push the button. Press it again and it's fine. I can live with that. I'm very happy with what I got, even though a lot of the snobs around here seem to think you have to be a billionaire before buying an exotic car. I make a relatively modest (compared to many of the people on this board) $400K a year and bought it cash from a pool of savings. I don't own a house, but that's next on my list when the real estate market reaches rock bottom and you can get a reasonable house at a reasonable price. Until then everything I save goes into a down-payment savings account. The high end housing market is taking huuuge hits. Laguna Beach estates are listed at $9M, selling for $5m. A house in the hills was listed at $4.9M for about 120 days. Owners got desperate I guess, and it sold for $3.2 just a few weeks ago. This is all bringing comps down to reasonable levels. I still can't afford these kinds of houses with my income, but my point is - the housing market as an investment that many people on this forum have been advocating has cost these people a lot of money. Meanwhile I've been driving around in my gallardo and enjoying life.

The fun I've had with this car in my prime (I'm 29) has been worth every single penny (including the speeding ticket for $480 :) I think it's sad to see that many wealthy people on the forum steer people away from purchasing an exotic car just because they're not making millions a year and don't have a net worth of $5M+. I say life is too short, and you never know how long you'll be on this planet. Buy the car of your dreams and enjoy every second of the purchase. People who say a gallardo isn't an investment are wrong, though. The women I've gotten with this car man.. all the more reason to buy one if you have the means and you're in your 20-30s... and you like women. The car has held value really well too. I could probably sell it with a marginal loss in a few years.

I'm glad I followed my heart and didn't let the snobs on this forum influence my decision.

    Cheers!

You are so right...agree with you 110%..

Plus, as they say, You can SLEEP in your car..but you CANT drive your house!!

Also, I have, and will again take Credit card for the puchase of a vehicle..one time, for the full amount of $110,000. More and more people use CC for the miles, not un-cmmon at all.
